Does anyone cook for their dogs?

Does anyone cook every meal for their dogs? Frankies PT keeps telling me different things that he should be eating and I was wondering if it made more sence to cook for him completely or just add to his previous dog food.
Any recipes or websites?

Thanks
Lisa and Frankie

You know, for Christmas Grandma and Grandpa Schlueter gave me a cookbook for the dogs. It has some swanky illustrations and I'm sure the recipes would satiate any dogs palate. I can dig up some recipes, a lot of them are a filling dish that could be used to replace a meal here and there.

The only thing I DO cook for my dogs is rice and hamburger meat for diarrhea issues.
I barely care to cook for myself....

And I am much better at making sure my dogs get all their supplements than I am - a daily vitamin is too much most days for me!
 Here too!

There have been a few times that we had the dogs' stew for dinner.

If you'd like me to send you what an holistic vet recommends, let me know. You can run it past Frankie's physical therapist to see if it's appropriate. Note though that we do cook it and I don't give them the bones... you can decide what's best for your boy.
Jaclin I would love the recipe that you have.

Thanks Lisa and Frankie
That batch was just water, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, and green beans. I remember thinking... give a dog broccoli or cauliflower? P-U-stinkers! But that's not the case with mine. I had a beef steak that I cooked on the George Foreman grill 8) , sliced it and dumped it in there too. You can add a starch if you want... the vet recommends over-cooking any grain it so it's digested better. We use this as a topper for the kibble sometimes. I'll send you the info from the vet.

Bowzers Birthday Cake

2) Pat half the mixture into a greased and waxed paper-lined 9 inch cake pan.

3) layer hard-cooked egg slices over mixture, then top with remaining meat mixture. Bake in a preheated 350F degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until done.

Another recipe from The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs:

Doggerel

1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 pound ground or minced chicken
1/4 cup minced celery
1 cup chicken broth
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups cooked rice
4 tablespoons dried sage

1) Heat vegetable oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground chicken and celery and cook, stirring frequently, until meat is no longer pink and about 3 to 4 minutes.

2) Place cooked chicken and celery, including oil, in blender with chicken broth. Puree.

3) combine flour, cooked rice, chicken puree, and sage into a large bowl. Mix throughly to combine

4) Roll out dough on floured surface to about 1/4 inch (6mm) thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut into shapes. Combine dough scraps and continue to roll out and cut into shapes until all dough has been used.

5) Place cookies on ungreased foil-lined baking sheets, and bake in a preheated 325F degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Turn off oven and let cookies dr in oven for 3 hours or overnight. Makes about 5 to 6 dozen cookies
Another recipe from The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs:

Chicken-A-La-King sauce

1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 cup chopped mushrooms
1 cup cooked chopped chicken or turkey
1/4 frozen peas
1 cup Westie White Sauce (recipe at bottom of page)

1) heat oil in small saucepan over medium hat. Add mushrooms, cooking and stirring, 1 to 2 minutes

2) add chicken and peas. Cook and stir an additional 30 seconds

3) add white sauce and cook, stirring constantly, until sauce is warm, about 1 minute. Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

You can put this over your dogs dry food to add a little variety

Westie White Sauce

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 quart milk

1) melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat

2) add flour, a little at a time, stirring constantly, until all flour has been incorporated. Cook and stir an additional 2 to 3 minutes

3) slowly add milk, stirring constantly, until sauce is thick and smooth but does not boil, about 18 to 20 minutes

4) Pour sauce into airtight plastic container. Place plastic wrap directly on sauce to prevent 'skin' from forming. Let cool and refrigerate. Makes about 1 quart.
Another recipe from The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs:

If you want more recipes, let me know. There are other sauces, meal replacements, and cookies recipes.
I've often thought it would be a very nice gesture if my dogs might consider cooking for me just once.

Wendel's version of cooking for me is dumping the trash all over our office; he thinks it tastes amazing!
Half and Half, I cook as well as use kibble as a filler.

If you want a dog Health loaf receipe lets know. :D
