Icky Poo....

Hi all, I just love this site... I love having a place I can go for advise with my Sheepie questions... because I find myself in the most random predicaments with our silly sheepie... but O-how I love her!!! :aww:
Todays question (issue) is our sheepie girl, (who is shaved) is getting her waste stuck to the hairs around her bottom and it's really bothering her to the point I think it hurts her. She thinks she is resolving the issue by dragging her rear across any surface, but she did this on the concrete patio slab out back and now her poor rear is raw... and bleeds every time she does her rear dragging... so my question is, how do I make sure her waste is not getting stuck to her rear hairs, and bothering her, so that the rear dragging doesn't happen as much?

Thank you, and I hope you all are having a wonderful week!!!

are you sure that is the problem. I thought that that scooting move is also associated with an anal gland issue.

I don't know, now that you mention it... how would I know if there was an anal glad issue?? Is this something I need to address with our vet?
I would take him to your vet. Dexter started doing this and he ended up having a mild infection of one of his anal glands. I could see some swelling as well. I think that sometimes they can get impacted. My vet usually expresses them when he is in for his vists. I don't do that kind of thing on my own. Too gross for me.

Yeah that sounds like an anal gland issue to me, too. My sister's dog used to drag because she had difficulty releasing the anal gland fluid.

I'd take your sheepie to the vet, she may just need to have her anal glands expressed. It can be a common affliction for a dog.
I would say it's glands or worms.... definitely see the vet because if it isn't infected now it will be with her making herself bleed.
It may be worms. Deworming needs to be done regularly. Talk to your vet about it. I get my dog dewormed every 3 months.
Not to pile on (no pun intended), I go with anal glads. As for the sticking on to the hairs (once this other problem is addressed) either wash and dry the area daily or keep the "poop shoot" clipped short.

Here's a site on anal glads: http://www.barkbytes.com/medical/med0029.htm

I'd post the site that shows you how to clean them, but if she's in pain, let the vet do it.
Yep, sounds like either glands or worms. Take a trip to the vet and let us know how you get on. These sheepies really keep us on our toes don't they? :D
