Is she getting to socialize and play with other dogs and people? We introduced Mady to the dog park when she was just shy of 4 months, and it instantly became her favourite thing. She loves going there and playing with other dogs. She has her regular puppy friends (she's known for a whole 3 months now! ) and can run amok with any new dog who's game (usually the younger ones around her age). She also enjoys playing with other people and particularly loves playing with kids, but that comes after playing with dogs. Of course, once after a vigorous wrestling/chasing session with another young dog, I commented that "playing like that will get her good and tired", but the other dog owner's said "She's not getting tired, she's building endurance to play harder next time!" Very true. |
Yeah, puppies energy comes in spurts, so if you can think of something indoors to occupy her mind more than her body....make a tunnel out of ?? and have her run thru it. Teach her to open her toy box.......not wait. Simple obedience commands, come, sit, stay, down should be worked on. Private time games, Kong toys with cookies or PB smeared inside, since teething is going on, chewies...maybe even the cold chewies that you put in the freezer first. Good luck! |
No expert ..but I would think that if Khloe is 'active', and there is a heat issue, you can play 'inside' games to tire her mind and her body... A couple come to mind... Play hide and seek Place a treat in the middle of a towel and twist it..see how long it takes her to find it...(supervised only...puppy love to tear towels..not good for their tummies... ) Teach her how to retrieve in the house...we play this alot..but Heart loves to play this game...and could go on for hours.... Teach tricks...paw///catch a treat in her mouth// Set up inside play dates with other puppies in your area.... If you are going to a training class,,,,practice what you learned in class... Since we are in St. Louis, we have the same 110 heat index and inside a lot!!! .................. Good Luck... |
Thanks for the great ideas. She does love other dogs. Most of ou friends have small dogs and are intimidated by the size of our puppy so they are leery of letting them play. I know she would really benefit from puppy play dates. She has my 3 boys to run around with but it doesn't seem to be enough. The mental stimulation games sound great and we will try some of them. |
And...if you ever want to venture to St. Louis for a play date with Heart,,,,,just let me know.. |
Oh that would be soooo much fun! We may just have to arrange that. I have so much to learn and could probably benefit from that visit as much as Khloe would. We only live about 20-30 minutes from St. Louis so that wouldn't be bad at all. |
Just pm me whenever you are coming to the LOU and we can make a date!!!! We'll even take some pics, or maybe even a video, to post for everyone to enjoy!!!!! |
Sounds great! |
