Also, right now one is on the branch above the camera - hilarious! You can see the tail feathers, and the other 2 are SO curious! http://www.luther.edu/eaglecam/stream/ |

Any day or hour now!! They are jumping and flapping. |

Wow... it's been a while since I check in on them. They look great! |
Yesterday when I checked in on them there was a storm brewing and lots of wind. As the wind would blow they would spread their wings and do a little hopping thing. They didn't flap just spread the wings and hopped. It was really cute. They also went to the very edge of the nest a couple of times and I really thought they were going to go over. I will miss them when they are gone! I haven't seen Mom or Dad in a couple of weeks. I am sure they are still dropping off food--but have missed them. It is interesting too--to see how much the nest has changed--they are very good housekeepers! |
I've been off the eagle site for a couple days - and when I logged on this afternoon - it's an empty nest!!! Do they come back for awhile, or gone for good?? |
If they don't come back at night, then they are probably gone. Will check back later, if I remember. |
I logged on yesterday about 10:00 AM-there was only one eaglet in the nest. It was standing on the edge of the nest by the tree trunk. I decided to watch for awhile. It began to walk around the nest and all the time that it was walking it was making some kind of noise. It stopped turned around and looked up--went to the left side of the nest and never reappeared. I wasn't sure if it was just out of sight or if indeed it had taken the leap!! I logged on several more times yesterday and a few times today and have only seen an empty nest. Kind of sad--I miss them! I understand that they will not return to the nest. In fact they live for three years without a nest and don't nest again until they find a mate and then build their home nest. The parents will return to this nest and should return to raise more babies the next nesting season. From what I have read--they will not build another nest--they will use this one. |
I logged in about 8 pm and one bird was visible but moved away, probably to a nearby branch to roost for the night. |
Just checked the nest--there is still one eaglet in the nest-- |
I just checked and it's totally empty. I had sooo hoped to see the flapping and getting ready and all.... I've not been on in a while because Hubby came home from Iraq, we had a huge wedding event this past weekend and this coming weekend is graduation.. so I've been SUPER DUPER busy. But MAN I didn't want to miss it. |
you may see them yet from time to time as parents still teach them hunting skills. they aren't born with instinct to hunt. |
There is still one currently in the nest... 3:14pm EDT |
Aaaaand now I can't see any. |
I just watched 2 flap happily and fly off. |
Yay!! Ooo! One just landed back in the nest from somewhere and is lying down to sleep. OH! Now two are back! Both are lying down to rest. This is so cool! I figured they would be like other birds... once they left the nest they'd never return. I wonder how far they go away from the nest? Are they just up above the nest or are they coming in from a distance? |
I've been gone/outside all day, so I haven't looked. I'll check tomorrow morning! |
The last one in the nest just took off again. Wondering if they'll continue to come back for a while for nap time... Update- haha... just saw a wing and some tail feathers. And now one's back at the nest... and now it's gone again. |
they are learning to hunt from parents. they'll be around a bit, they don't go very far. watching parents. |
It was empty when I got up. One just landed and flapped and bounced, then took off a few minutes later. |
The eaglets are still popping in - sometimes just 1, occassionally 2 at a time. They nap, just sit, or even have brought fish and other snacks and eaten them up there. One is there now |
mom and two are having a fish right now. |
No one at the nest right now... but glad you two got to see them eating fish! |
awhile after spotting mom bringing my two eaglets here in pa food, they both came out soaring and practicing. one to the north and one to the south. couldn't get pictures, i was in the middle of the creek and not brave enough to take nikon out there.i'll try next weekend. |
The director from the Resource Raptor Project has posted a project summary on the web page. Some good info about the whole thing and some updates on our favorite eaglets too http://www.luther.edu/eaglecam/stream/ |
One is in the nest now -- the sound was unexpected -- I can hear trucks and other traffic nearby as well as the occasional shriek. |
Momma is home! |
Ron wrote: One is in the nest now -- the sound was unexpected -- I can hear trucks and other traffic nearby as well as the occasional shriek. Two were napping earlier. I often log on and keep the tab open when on other sites - the shrieking clues me in that one is back and I click on the tab and watch them. Just have to refresh it after the 15 minutes are up! When they had the 1st camera functioning, it showed a highway runs horizontally across the back - in view just above the upper edge of the nest. And there is a bridge, as a river runs down the right side of the nest. A trout hatchery is nearby, so I'm sure that's why the unusual large family actually has made it this far. |
One looks ill.... the other looks worried. |
Ron wrote: Momma is home! I think that is the 3 babies. I can't see all their heads, but if they are all black they are the babies. The mom and dad both have white heads, and are virtually indistinguishable. The male is slightly smaller. |
I can hear shrieking but cant see anyone, drats. Its always been dark when I've looked before. |
Mim wrote: I can hear shrieking but cant see anyone, drats. Its always been dark when I've looked before. They go up the tree above the nest - just out of range of the camera very frustrating! There is one that I swear is perching on the camera a lot. You can hear the scratching of it's claws on it, and sometimes see the tail feathers flipped over the lens. |
It is Thursday July 1 about 5:30 and Mama is in the nest. She has been there about an hour. One of the eaglets was there with her for about 20 minutes and they both were just sitting and looking around. I think I hear some of the others close by but as of yet they are not visible! |
two are napping on the nest now Almost done - the camera is coming down July 7th. |
Two there now and a third was also for awhile and then they squabbled over something to eat and one left |
