I have only ever trained each adult dog to walk nicely separately then walked them together, or put a puppy with an adult to learn from the adult. I know some use a "coupler" lead to help with pulling. The reason I ask is that a friend just saw the list of topics for a dog obedience course and one of the topics was "walking two dogs at once". Neither of us could think of any specific training that would take up a whole topic. If there is some I'd love to know it. |

I'm not sure why special training would be needed I just use a coupler, and since both dogs walk fine on a leash alone, they adjusted very fast to walking together. I'm curious now as to what they meant! |
If you find out, let me know! It seems that Wendel is the problematic walker of my two. Asterisk will usually walk at my side but Wendel likes to keep his head down and walk at a good clip. Strangely... when he walks alone, he'll walk at my side Maybe he's just trying to get away from his sister |
I found it extremely difficult to walk both dogs at once. If both dogs weren't trained to walk seperately on a leash, you ahve no chance That coupler thing is nice to see, and I see it usually with small dogs, but so far I haven't been able to use one! |
I can walk both my boys by myself quite well - Duffie on my left, Barks on my right. However if we go as a family and the boys are being walked by 2 different people it can be difficult because they are mommy's boys afterall & prefer walking beside me. We have a coupler but it doesn't work for us. Duffie has a "plod" type walk, glued to my side where Barks is quicker on his feet & likes to wander out & behind and invistigate smells as we walk. Walking past a hotel a few weeks ago, an intoxicated man said "Holy $%*#, would you look at that, just like on the dog whisperer". What was funny was he was badly sluring his words & added a couple syllables to whisperer! |
I never really thought much of it when I started walking all three of my dogs together...as you can see in my Avatar. I always walked Violet/China together and when Asia came along we just added her in. The Aussies like to walk next to each other and after a while Violet slows down and will walk behind, but i just accommodate her.. |
