OES Eye color standard

Our neighbors just got an OES puppy about 4 months old. The dog has one brown eye and the other eye is a pale grey/blue color. Is this normal or an AKC standard in OES?
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
Absolutely! Its often referred to as "Wall-eye" or Wall-eyed" and is considered acceptable by AKC standards.

In fact, the AKC Standard reads as follows: Eyes-- Brown, blue or one of each. If brown, very dark is preferred. If blue, a pearl, china or wall-eye is considered typical

You can learn more by googling "OES AKC Standard"; all the information will come up for you regarding the breed standards.
Yes, very normal and acceptable. Both of my females have wall-eyes and my male has both brown eyes.
A wall-eye was very preferred and prized by the old shepherders! They actually thought there was a distinct 'wall' built in the skull dividing the skull to 2 halves between the 2 eyes!
Daisy one of my first OES had wall eyes. Drove my mother up the wall as she would sit and stare into the house thru the back window....
As you can see by this pic my Violet has Wall-eyes. I think her eyes are very pretty.

I never wanted a wall-eye sheepie! I'd grown up with all brown eyed girls, and when Luna crawled into my lap at the breeders (not the most discriminating way to pick your puppy, I'll admit) the one of the things I thought was "not a wall eye!!!". Of course, I feel VERY differently now. Her blue eye is so pretty, and she has such very distinct expressions with her one blue and one brown eye....

and as a puppy:

that one blue eye practically glows. :-)
Zeke is a wall-eye.

Mulligan is a wall-eye.

But most of the time you can't get a picture of it, this gets in the way:
I've had five sheepies, which means ten eyes. Nine of them were differing shades of brown...all gorgeous of course...but my Theeps had one amazing blue eye. It was ice blue with these little crackly lines all over.

I miss that eye so much. And I hope one day to have another blue eyed sheepie...and someone half as cool as my Theeps was.

I love those blue eyes! And they are, as others have said, perfectly acceptable.
I LOVE sheepie noses!! :hearts: What a great photo!
Love the nose photo! I wake up to that in my face often!

My male is wall eyed. I read somewhere the shephards preferred a wall-eye because they thought it meant the dog had super magical herding powers or something  I know my wall eyed boy has super magical powers to drive me crazy!!!! My female, his half sister, is two brown and I love them as well! I sing Van Morrison's song to her all the time..."My Brown Eyed Girl"
We didn't care either way, but I picked her out of the liter and it ended up she was wall-eyed. It's adorable and at time kind of creepy when she stares you down. I love it

it IS kind of creepy. we call Luna "Crazy Eye"!

LOL - Todd is absolutely freaked by dogs with blue eyes.

So we will never have one.

I hope there isn't some wall eyed pup calling my name in the future...it would be a hard choice!
I LOVE wall-eyed dogs :D - and horses :)
But yes, it is KIND a creepy
But I just love them!
Like Husky's.... when they have both of the eyes blue, and are black, they're SO creepy ! :D

I don't know any wall-eyed OES in Iceland :?
My wife doesn't like Archies Mad Proffessor eye!

Not that you get to see his eyes that often
I once had an OES puppy (only had her 3 days before she was stollen) with 2 of the most GORGEOUS DEEP BLUE eyes i had ever seen. All white head and she was NOT deaf either............
I knew basically who had taken her ...........was in El Paso around the race track.
Oh how beautiful that pup was...........

Then there is double creepy!!!!! :rimshot:
Only one of my 6 sheepies has had a wall eye.....blue over dark hair, brown eye over white hair. All others full browns. Now Harry, the sheepiexcoonhound has one wall........which made me firmly believe there was sheepdog floating around inside him.
Two blues, my hubby loves them out walking he tells me Syd is a good "Chick Magnet" the females fall in love with his baby blues and make a huge fuss and he knows how to lure the chicks with his baby blues  , first time for me with a sheepie with blue peepers. :P

I am use to them now and I dont think they look spooky or creepy I am actually in love with his eyes and he certainly knows how to use them to get what he wants from me. His expressions make me vunerable to his every whim :P
duffy is my first with 2 baby bluesImage

Very creepy pic honestly LOL
Heard it doesnt matter, bloo has wall-eye. Rare to find them with the same colour apparently? :)

Only thing i heard judges dont like, is if an oes has white on the black (not show markings)
proper show markings are solid black and white with no white on the back. :)

Correct me please if im wrong hehe.... (what breeder told me anyways) hope i helped xxxx

Nope, it's not rare at all for OES to have the same color eyes. The only color you really don't want is amber.

Splashes make no difference in the United States. We don't judge on markings in the way that they do in some other countries. That doesn't mean that some judges don't necessarily prefer traditional markings, though-- it's just not considered a fault in any way.

I don't think it's creepy at all. I love both the blue eye and while the standard says the darker brown is preferred, I love the light brown. Very beautiful eyes :hearts:  :hearts:

Its strange how the preferred markings vary from country to country, judge to judge. I can vouch that here in the UK, there must be no white in the blue/black - so topline, back legs. Ideally there shouldnt be a black marking within the white, so on the shawl. I have known many a breeder to use boot polish to try and make the mis-mark on the blue/black disappear and they pray for no rain!

I personally love the China blue eyes, but again they are not preferred within the UK show ring - drives me mad as it is a native of the breed. Cubbie was wall-eyed and I loved her so didnt mind too much but do prefer two brown or two blue if I had a preference.

The wall-eyed were considering mystical by the shepherds of yesterday - they thought that the dogs had the power to see into the future and would look after them well.

I have always wanted a brown OES, yes you've read that right a brown one - sadly they were bred out in the early 90's. I guess I will just have to have a brown beadie.
Actually that is in correct, patching on the head neck and shawl is acceptable so is white socks on the feet, standard for the UK, FCI (Europe) and applies here in Australia and NZ,but definately no white in the back coat is allowed as classed as a fault.

Colour: Any shade of grey, grizzle or blue. Body and hindquarters of solid colour with or without white socks. White patches in the solid area to be discouraged. Head, neck, forequarters and under belly to be white with or without markings. Any shade of brown undesirable.

Eye Colour as per the above countries standards and 2 blues are OK, most objectionable is light coloured eyes, that is the browns looking like gold, greenish, very pale with no depth of colour etc. Blues can be dark right through to what they call a pearl colour and both colourisations of the blue is accepted. Even though I am not a fan of the pearl colour blue but love the dark blues.

Eyes: Set well apart. Dark or wall eyes. Two blue eyes acceptable. Light eyes undesirable. Pigmentation on the eye rim is preferred.
Hi!
In my first litter there have been two puppies with wall eyes. But to me it seemed the look is a little bit cold. Now my Big Boy has light brown eyes and I love them.It is not standard I know. When I just saw your wonderful pics I am thinking of getting a wall eyed bob. :D
