Finally A Grooming Room!!

A little over a year ago I posted that I finally had what was arguably the biggest and best grooming tool, a raised tub.

While it cannot be called a grooming tool in the traditional sense, after another year of basement finishing - and there is still lots to do - work I've managed to get its companion to about 95% completion - a purpose built, dedicated grooming room. There are still quite a number of details to finish as well as a small area of ceiling not shown in these photos to do but it certainly is functional. In fact I have been doing some grooming in it for a couple of weeks, even before I got the ceiling and finish lighting you see here done. So here are a few photos, first a few overall views:

And the opposite end of the room where a small closet hides the deep freezer. Eventually a few storage upper cabinets will be fitted above the freezer as well.

It is a small room, only about 6ft wide by about 11 feet long and yes I would have liked it to be larger but the two rooms flanking it dictated the width and the house infrastructure (heating, support column etc dictated the length. An eight foot width would have made it pretty much perfect but it is what it is and the rotating top on the new grooming table pretty much mitigates that entirely.
As soon as I started grooming I noticed that I needed somewhere to put my brushes and other tools which were not being used. Because the room is so narrow I couldn't fit a fixed shelf anywhere so I built this little drop leaf shelf. The top is about 12" by 18" and easily holds the combs, slicker and secondary brushes not in my hand. But when folded down it protrudes less than 3 inches off the wall so I can easily walk by it.

And since it will get hot with the dryers on after baths I fitted a bathroom exhaust fan.

Between the flash and camera sensor saturation the colours don't show very well in most of the photos. It is not really quite so glowing orange - the actual colour is Behr paints Florida Mango!!. This photo is about right.

Anyway, just celebrating and sharing one more little acheivement. If anyone wants more details or information on how things were done to assist in building their own don't hesitate to ask in open forum or by PM.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl

How nice!!!
My house has no such available space to be a dedicated grooming area :(

Is the tub in that same room??

What's the flooring? It looks like wood, but I'm guessing it isn't, if the tub is there too.
WOW!!!!! 8O 8O 8O

Carl you did a great job!!!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

Thank You. No the tub is in the basement bathroom, the next room to the left of the grooming room as you look towards the storage cabinets and tv. (By the way the narrow centre one holds all the grooming brushes, combs, ear cleaning stuff etc.) The flooring is actually a laminate "wood". It is very durable so it will stand up to the dogs claws and is because of the finish it is also reasonably waterproof, not that it will be exposed to a lot of water. Plus it is patterned after "zebrawood" so I think it looks good. It was actually this flooring that dictated the overall colour palatte for the room.

Thanks and Cheers

I think it's fantastic!!! It's great in so many ways!! Come do one for us please  I'm just not sure microwaving food and dog hair go together. I'll take a drink though. ;)

Carl you did a wonderful job. What a great room to spend a good part of your life in lol I love the Florida Mango color. I can see many hours of happy grooming in that room..
Looks great, Carl.
Only have one question.
What's with the "dinosaur" on top of the cabinets?
What is that? An RCA circa the mid '70s? :P
What a lovely room! I love the colour and the floor. Do you have any outside windows?
Love it!!! The color is great especially for a basement space, nice and cheery.
I wish I had some spare space. My grooming table just stays set up at the end of the living room. :(

DINOSAUR!!! 8O How dare you insult the galant old warhorse!!! Yes it is an RCA 20" circa 1984. It was the first colour tv I ever bought and since it still works I see no point to buying a new one when there are plenty of other demands for the few pennies I have. When it does die I'll hunt through the decent used appliance stores for a somewhat newer replacement but for the time being.....

No, no outside windows, the photos show all the walls. I did briefly think about punching a hole in the foundaton for one but the cost and extra permits plus engineering design made that a brief wish that got put away. Plus the best I could have done was a window well immediately outside I don't think it would have been worthwile. It's plenty bright as it is, in fact I might have to put a dimmer switch on the light circuit and with my focus on the dogs and a tv for background noise I don't feel a big need for the window.

Thanks and Cheers

Yep, some people just don't understand that dog hair is a primary protein supplement!!! :rimshot: The microwave is just there for the time being as the basement food warmer because none of the other rooms are finished enough for it to be there. What I would really like is a small fridge to keep drinks and the dogs' medicine's cold. Eventually, ....but for the moment I'll just keep working away on finishing the grooming room details and making some progress on the bathroom. Then my hobby room next to it and finally the recroom in the front of the basement - when I'm not grooming ...... no rest for the wicked....
:P

I really would do anything for that grooming room!
:clappurple:
It's wonderful, Carl!
I love the color too :D

Did Canada phase out analog television transmissions the way the U.S. did last summer?
That TV wouldn't work here in the States unless it was hooked up to cable, dish, or had a digital-analog converter box.

But I hear you about more pressing things. Been thru those situations.

By the way, I know all about dinosaurs. My mother has a '86 26" NEC TV in her basement. Bought it brand new. TV has NEVER broken once. The picture on that set rivals today's CRT TVs (when you can even find them). I had this set at my first house for like 7 years before giving it back to her. One of the best non-HD CRT sets I've ever laid eyes on.
What a nice room! I love the color too-would love to have a grooming room!
That is something to be admired for sure!!! Great Job !!! I wish i could dedicate a grooming room in my house. My sheepies seem to give only me a hard time with even simple things like brushing. However they get an A+ at the groomers.

I love that picture with your babie on top of that bucket :D
Soooo, we should have our first play date in your wonderful grooming room!

Then, for the next play date, you should come to OUR house and we can start building the same room here. Great job, I wish I were handy like that.
