2 inches of water in basement, and another party done.

Oh, where to begin...I'll start after the last fiasco I wrote about, as I remember it. LOL.

Last week, John was out in the field, came in, and said- "Does my lip look swelled?" I think I go bit by a spider. Humm. Kind of. Let me get Benadryl for you. Went to the medicine cabinet-- came back, and now it looked like a golf ball was sitting on his lip. Rapid heart beat- sick to stomach. ER- shots- 3 hours of observation- home. He's OK now :)

I had my second MRI- and tomorrow will have epidural steroid shots for two buldging dics. So ready for this backnightmare to end.

Friday, I was getting ready for round two of the never ending parties here. Thought to myself-- I really need to shampoo the carpet in the den. With all the rain, Max has really tracked up that room. At 7:30 a.m. went downstairs to our FINISHED basement-- to find 2 inches of water. Melt down. What the heck. LONG story short-- last week when the tornado went through, one of our trees was struck by lightening. They think that ran the ground, and popped the circuit breakers in the basement-- sump pump quit working, and stupid us--- didn't check. We hardly ever go down there, only when we have company.

Called the insurance company-- they sent a plumber-- new sump pump. Another company is working on the water damage and pumping it out. They think they can save most things.

All the time they are carrying up waterlogged carpet-- I am getting ready for 40 people for lunch on Saturday. We buried John's Dad's ashes at the cemetary, and then we came back here to dedicate a tree in his memory.

Ok-- food done. Tables set up. Saturday morning is here. Rain, Rain and more Rain. Humid. Oh well. Mother Nature.

All in all-- it turned out very nice. Ding the bell-- round three is coming this weekend with Father's day!

Oh no :(

I hope your basement stuff is salvaged!
Maybe it was a good thing you needed to go to the basement for the party, and found that darn water. Thanks Max, for the muddy footprints!

That allergy stuff is nothing to mess with. Does John have an epi pen now?

And good luck with the epidural injections and hoping you get some relief :D :D

Ditto on the basement!! I'm glad John is okay now. I would have FREAKED out if I saw that happen to my husband!

I hope the shots do wonders for you!! I know you need the relief!!!

You are the ultimate hostess to be able to handle all that and still have things go well!!
Oh I hope you don't have a round three and the epidural works. It didn't for my DH which is why they went to surgery. Friend is also looking at surgery in 10 days after being on morphine and one of the 'codines with little relief. If the epi's work, great!

Does the insurance cover that type of damage? Most are eliminating any type of water/flood damage due to mold concerns later.
I don't know about the ultimate hostess comment. I think we are just in denial, and keep opening up the door and letting guests come in. John says we are Numb and Dumb :D :D :D

Yes-- he now has an epi-pen. Scared me death!!! At least this time in ER, my hair looked good. 8O

We have $7,000 in water damage from insurance. Not much, but, it will get the basement cleaned up. Then we need carpet and two new walls. (drywall) Sigh...

Yes-- if Max didn't mud up the den, it would have probobly have been this weekend, when everyone was here for Father's day that we found the mess....

I want to run away from home.. :sidestep: :headbang:
Holy Crap Lori!!! 8O 8O 8O

I just spotted this post...YIKES!!! Im glad John is OK! I can soooo sympathize with that!

It gotta get better, right? Bad things come in threes, good Karma build up, and all that??? :sidestep:
Lori: I am so sorry to hear of all the bad luck you/John have been going through. I hope all bad things have come to an end at least for a while. Having delt with allergies all of my life and my hubby is also allergic to bee stings we feel John's pain.

I hope all goes well for Father's Day.
I'm surprised that your policy covered "rising water"... was it specifically flood insurance?

John looked at the policy and I spoke with our agent. I'll look tonight and see just how it's worded. The adjustor will be here tomorrow...
Normally, if it's not a flood policy, my understanding is that the water needs to have come from above, such as "wind driven rain" or a burst pipe and not "rising water".

I would be very curious what the adjuster has to say (if anything). I had a sump pump that failed when it was needed. It wasn't due to a lighting strike it just died. Since a hazard caused your pump failure, perhaps the consequence would be covered. I don't know.

Be careful what you say to the adjuster! Don't make assumptions that you don't know to be fact if they might hurt your claim. And be nice! Offer a drink of water or soda, etc.

Good advice... and I'm ALWAYS nice. :D I'll let ya all know how we fare!
Lori--now all the bad stuff is over and things will be on the upswing--right! You really have had a large dose of not so good!

Great advice Ron--we have had several people here in Nashville that have had damage covered because the water came down from the roof and flooded their homes--and other's who had nothing covered because it was 'rising' water from the flood. In Tennessee you can't get flood insurance until you have been flooded unless you are specifically located in a flood plain-- 8O 8O so most everyone we know had no coverage from their insurance companies--and a very few who did have some coverage found out that their contents were not covered just the structure. Lots of hurting people who thought they were covered by their insurance and have found that indeed NO! So sad! :( :(
Adjustor wrote us a check for $7000.00 No problems at all. We have a water damage clause in our policy, and she said it covers flood or any kind of backup... I didn't ask questions-- just took the check and said thanks. :D

Very wise!!
I hope you get things all sorted real fast.
All the best with your back pain.
