Just curious who is a packing procrastinator. Lisa and Frankie |

I don't have enough clothes to pack that far ahead. I'm still washing and ironing the night before. |
I HATE packing! And usually end up adding things at the last minute only to end up with a suitcase full of clothes I never wear! If I pack too far in advance, I forget what's in there and wind up doing it again anyway! So, congratulations for being successful! |
I pack a few hours before leaving! If I do it earlier I forget 1/2 the things I need. |
I pack for 5 and usually prepare for 4 animals to stay somewhere or come with us, so I start thinking of what I want to pack a week out ...start jotting down the must do before we leave, must bring, and then the things that go in the car. Then pack the night before or day of... |
It depends! I usually start the day before...unless I think of something, or come across something earlier, then I will tuck it into my bag because otherwiseI will not think of it again! |
Depends on what sort of trip. Work related, meaning a long distance art show, for me...I start writing lists weeks in advance, then pack the non-personal stuff a few days before, and the personal items and dog gear the day before. Just a pleasure trip or visit...I just pack up right before bed the night before. I'm amazed at you folks who can pack on the day you leave! My brain doesn't function that well in the morning! |
I start writing out a list of what to bring and do about two to one week in advance. Then I usually pack the night before and add all my personal products the day of. |
I pack the things I won't need that week and then pack all the clothes the day before...all personal items as I used them the day I'm leaving. I don't like stress on the morning I'm leaving on a trip. I also like to put fresh sheets on the bed so when I come home all is clean and comfy. |
Cleaning the house is a must before a trip. I hate stressing when I get back. |
I pack just before I leave. Having worked in the airline industry for the past 30 years and traveling all the time (marketing and sales), I have it down pat. I have a pre-packed cosmetics bag that is always ready to go and I have perfected the art of mix and match clothing. I also only take two pairs of shoes (sneakers and work shoes) and wear one of the pairs. I ONLY take a carry-on bag and a briefcase (no pocketbook) that my laptop fits in. I also always have a camera with me. I have traveled for as long as three months and still only take a carry on. I do admit that I carry an extra large weekender LeSportsac with me, in case I find interesting things I want to buy along the way (I Christmas shop all year round!). I either use laundry service at a local laundromat or if I have the time do it myself at the laundromat (I carry a small supply of individual soap packets). I have met some really interesting people around the world doing laundry! Hotel service it too expensive. Pack light - it makes your trip so much less stressful! I consider it a successful pack job if I have used every single item in my bag by the end of the trip! Kathie |
I am a list maker, so I have several different lists for packing. Summer, winter, family, with & without dogs, tailgating, sports trips with kids, lake cabin, etc. I revise them as needed. But they keep me from making trips to the store while traveling - those add up. A couple of days before the trip, I check out the clothing/shoes/purses to make sure they are still in good shape. I pack the night before, except for the things I need that morning. |
I'm relived to see that other people are list-makers, like me! I can be a bit compulsive about it My big Fairbanks show trip (2 weeks long) isn't till the end of July, but Ive already worked up my stock list (what artwork I'm taking), my display/booth items list, my trailer/camping supply list, my dog stuff list, and my personal stuff lists for both Scott and myself. I'll re-write the dumb things many times between now and the days I actually pack anything It helps, though! |
I HAVE TO ADMIT, I PACK WAY TO MUCH. BUT THIS TIME TROY WANTS TO SHARE A SUITCASE AT LEAST SHORTS AND SUMMER TOPS DON'T TAKE UP THAT MUCH ROOM LISA AND FRANKIE |

I also wash all the laundry through out the trip and do the final before I head home so all I have to do is put it all away once I arrive at home, and since the house is spotless I can then relax from my vacation. |
I tend pack the night before. Bobby & I do Revolutionary/French and Indian as well as Civil War living history. We have at least one event a month that we have to pack for, including food, tent's..etc. Some events are a week long. We've been doing this for almost 15 years so we're pro's at packing and re-packing. Vacations are a breeze, I don't stress as much about having every single thing. It's alot easier to pick up what you need in a resort than in the woods. |

Just paid over weight fees after a three day trip because of shopping! I always wait way too late to pack and then throw things in --I am going to do better--you inspired me! |
30 minutes. I travel way too much. |
I write a short list of essentials, mostly stuff like tickets, passport, credit card, toothbrush, bathing suit (if its a holiday in the sun, sigh havent done one of those in a couple of years) then I pack the day before I leave. Once I let my receptionist (panic merchant) convince me that I MUST pack ahead of time. I ended up packing way too much stuff, as I just kept adding. Now I'm back to my relatively last minute efforts. |
for hawaii, i pack about 6 months in advance....because i switch summer to winter wardrobes (and the off season goes in those space bags).... and san diego, i pack about 2 weeks in advance....i like to be prepared...and have it all thought out... i tend to go back and pull things, add things and generally just mess with my mind...ocd has control of my packing... |
I am already stressing over packing for a short three day weekend trip over 4th of July...Now how long in advance do you pack the dog gear??? |
I'm already thinking about our 4th of july trip too. Dog gear for us isn't packed until the night before/day of b/c we ...use it daily It is written in its own column on my don't forget to pack/do list. I have prepared their food in individual ziplock bags a week out though. D, I'd totally be lost if I had to pack 6 months out!!! |

We keep a "travel" dog bag set up at all times, and for long trips I just add to it. My always packed dog bag has: a small 1st aid kit for dogs extra leashes (their normal daily ones are on a hook by the door) lots of poo bags dog jackets a bowel for water and a bottle to fill up before we leave scissors a brush and nail-clippers (in a smaller pouch, so I can find them quick) tie-out cords treats disposable booties a few toys We take this bag along every weekend when we do (in town) fairs. For longer trips, of course there is a second pack up of: food, food bowls, medicines, favorite toys, dog beds (for our weekend shows they have old/funky ones that stay packed with the booth/displays...for longer shows I like to take their familiar home dog beds) and maybe the clippers, if I think I might want to clip them shorter at some point. yes...its sad when you realize that your dogs have better-organized luggage than you do! |
I have a semi-packed dog bag too - it only gets used for the dogs when I travel. Then I add the daily stuff - right before I go - dishes, food, any meds they may be on, the supplements and anything that may be unique to this particular trip. My human bag is semi packed too - some stuff just "lives" in my bag. I also have a dedicated travel personals box as well - I use a clear kids school pencil/crayon box. Works great - nothing gets squished or smashed. I make a master list and check things off as I pack the car - the safest way for me! |
