Augh...it was 63 degree F when we left, and 94 degree F when we returned to Missouri ! |

You better have DEEP pockets if you want to live in San Diego. Housing is ASTRONOMICAL!! Plus the cost of living in California is very high. But that's the price you have to pay to live in sunny, 72 degree weather year round. |
There's also the San Diego Comic Con to consider. Basically, your would-be home town will be over run with about 150,000 geeks in assorted, inappropriate attire and with questionable hygiene habits for anywhere from 7 - 10 days in mid-July. I know lots of natives actually leave town for the convention's dates, and even rent out their homes at exorbitant rates for the period of the show. I hear that the other 355 days of the year are wonderful. |

Climate-wise (I don't believe I typed that).......gee: Kansas City vs San Diego? Yeah, cost of real estate, taxes, gas, water, etc is Plus the state is going bankrupt (excuse me, IS bankrupt). On the plus side, real estate prices are down thanks to everyone in foreclosure. I would not be moving there and then looking for a job. Too many current residents are also looking. |

Okay then; I guess he can join my BF and I; we tend to be part of the invading horde. |
Ummmm, which of you has the questionable habits, and which the inappropriate attire? |

You draw for us a very clear picture of your esteem for the genre of your clientelle! LOL |
I'm from San Diego. Pros: The weather, although that depends on where you live. If you move east of the 5, you're going to be HOT. If you're west of it, you'll be okay. And, it does get chilly in the winter. People assume it's always 72 and sunny, but it does get to the 50s on a regular basis (I know I know, not COLD, but you're not out at the beach in your bikini in that weather). Cons: Real Estate prices (even renting). And yes, technically it's less than it used to be, but it's still WAY more $$ than it should be and way more than most other parts of the country. Earthquakes: There seem to be a lot of them lately It's a very transient place, which can be good or bad. Lately I've felt it's kind of bad b/c it means that people care less for the long-term of things, whether it be jobs, making friends, politics. My mom just said she was talking to a man at a dinner party who moved to San Diego from somewhere on the East Coast I believe. He said he couldn't believe how unfriendly the people were. My mom shot back that her daughter (me ) moved to the South where people are supposed to be nice and they weren't, so maybe it's just a newcomer thing to have a hard time finding people willing to let new people in. I never even noticed Comic-Con...so don't let that be a factor, lol. |
Great info, thanks Steph! We noticed the un-friendliness of people while were there. We kind-of keep to ourselves though, so it doesn't really bother us. My BIL and his wife live there, which would be nice. We love the fact that everyone is so active. We are VERY active people and with so many trails, beaches, and parks we were in heaven! I'm sure it will take a few years to actually get a plan together, find new jobs, sell our house...it's a very daunting task to even consider. |
