Chewie and I were in the rally and obedience rings. We already have our RAE (rally advanced and excellent combined), but we supported our club and entered both - so I guess over time we will be accumulating 10 more legs for RAE2. In Excellent he did well - 94 and 1st place. In Advanced he got a 98 and tied for 1st - but we had the slower time, so that moved us to 2nd place. So we got leg 1 of his RAE2! Then we did regular obedience, and it is SOOO not his thing. He doesn't care for it, it just isn't enough fun. I tried to really get him hyped up (post rain and the sun had come out, it was like a sauna!) and raced around, playing a good game with his favorite tug right before going in the ring. It worked to some extent.... He did all the exercises perfectly....but not a single sit on a halt. He did his on lead heeling, figure 8, stand for exam, off lead heeling and recall all really well. Just everytime the judge said halt, he STOOD in perfect heel position! He had a couple lags in the heeling, but really, he did better than I thought it would go. I was sure with all the no sits we were NQ'd. Did our long sit and down - he never messes them up. It was the same judge as Rally, so she had just seen him do a wonderful job.... It was just his subtle way of doing it, but making a bit of attitude! We ended up with a barely Q - 171 (of 200, need 170 to Q) So one leg of his CD down. 2 to go!...after we work on this some more Judi - Harry's breeders were at the show with their male pup. We had dinner with them at the banquet....were your ears burning??? |

I'm with you Chewie, makes no sense to sit when you know you are going to get up immediately, silly uprights. |
Good going Chewie & Dawn! Hey....a leg is a leg. You'll get better scores as he goes along. What probably happened is he was bored big time by the reg. obedience because you had done the fun stuff 1st. It takes more concentration because you can't talk as you go along. Also, they told me when I was showing Melody that when they get stressed, they revert to what they feel most comfortble with. In his case he probably remembered being in the breed ring & stacking when you stopped. I'm on the outside of the ring this weekend. It's my kennel club's shows this weekend. But I do have dog show people here. 3 extra people & 3 extra dogs staying at the house. It's FULL! |
Ha ha ha! Tiggy did that to me once. Every time she was supposed to sit she lay down. I had arrived late and she didnt get to play, so I think it was her protest at me mucking up. Ps now I think about it, that was a hot, humid day too. |
Congratulations Chewie and Dawn on an awesome Rally outing! I'm with Marilyn ...... a Q's a Q!!!! So hooray for the 1st leg in Obedience!!! You know I am a little scared though ... if Chewie the wonder dog cuts it so close to a Q in the obedience ring there is no hope for Harry and we go into the ring for the first time in two weeks. Was it only OES entered in the obedience/rally trials or did you open it up to other breeds? I like going to breed specialtys more than all breed shows because they seem low key with fewer entries. Although that doesn't mean Harry is any more or less successful. |
Judi - it was just OES yesterday. This weekend (Sat/Sun) is the all breed show and trials and I have Riley entered for his (hopefully) last RN leg one of the days! He just doesn't care for regular obedience. And he is stubborn, just usually it doesn't show that often with him. Very clear when he was "normal" in rally and popping into fast sits all by himself as he always does and 20 minutes later doesn't remember that halt=sit...lol (and we were still in the exact same ring with the same judge.) Save us from stubborn dogs... So, I'm sure Harry will do just fine. |
