Since we went around noon I knew there would be very people and dogs there...just the way I like it. I parked the car, put the muzzle on Gar, just in case, and let them go. There was a women there with a black lab and some little yappy thing. They both came running over to us and right away the black lab tries to mount Gar and the little yappy is trying to take a hunk out of his ankles. The women is talking on the phone, see's her dog try to mount Gar and does NOTHING. I have him a slap on the rump to get him off and grab Gar and leave that area fast. A little while later we are up in the fields and another dog comes along and goes after Gar. Back down to the general area to throw out some poo, there is a guy with two dogs and I mention to him about the other dogs and just then his dog comes over and his tail goes up and head high and he's walking toward Gar, I said "see, your dog is up in arms". I had a leash on Gar at that time and I pull him closer and the guy calls his dog and said "yea, I see what you mean". Remember I have Simon with me too and have NO problems with him and other dogs. There is something going on with Garfunkel that other dogs just do not like. |

Poor Garfunkel. |
Aww. This seems to happen to Ru. Sometimes I think he will never make friends. We were at training last night and somebody bought along a very aggressive dog (not for the lesson, I think just to get help) and he lunged at Ru as I first walked past into the room. Luckily I was between the two and kept calm and just kept walking, the aggressive dog unsuccessfully grabbed at my treat bag attached to my hip, he was still going for Ru, but he could have easily got me. This dog had two correction collars, two leashes and two men holding the leashes. Still they couldn't control him. Ru seemed OK about it, I just stayed calm and got him focussed on me. Everyone asked if I was OK. Of course there was no apology from the two men |

My obedience trainer NEVER lets new dogs with issues just turn up at classes like that. She vets them at home first, then gets them to come early (if its appropriate for them to be in a class situation) so that the dog can settle in away from the walk ways and everyone is warned that the dog has issues, and its taken very slowly. |
Poor Gar!! He's so misunderstood. Do you think the muzzle might throw the other dogs off? |
i had this trouble with duffy seems like they don't like him dreamer no problem i had to stop taking them both no worth what could happen ..too many close calls for me |
The muzzle is because Gar nips at dogs that run...he has a high prey drive. If a dog runs Garfunkel is right at their heels nipping. He means no harm, thats just him but other dogs don't like this and it has caused fights. Garfunkel does not back down from a fight. I keep the muzzle on so that he can't nip. He will also drag Simon all over the place by the collar. |
Gar had a very rude demeanor. Actually, he's a very rude dog And I say this with great affection, you understand, but when I fostered him my pacifist gang all took one look at him and left whatever area he was in. I had to gate him to give them some peace. He mounted everything in sight: male, female, neutered, spayed, intact, even the cat looked nervous Postured and stood up high over them. He's like the too-cool-for-words kid who swaggers into the school yard. The scrappy kids all instantly want to beat him up. The nerds just know he's going to make their lives miserable. He's not a mean dog. He just wasn't socialized properly is my guess. Probably taken from his litter at 8 weeks and never/rarely saw another dog till mine, and then living with Simon. He really wants to play, I think, but doesn't have a clue how. Lucky for him he's sweet as pie with people. And also lucky for him Simon is very understanding Pam, so cool you're back! Agility yet? ok Kristine....you have to see this dog when he wants to play. You want to lyao. He eggs Simon on. Sometimes Simon is not in the mood, other times its get out of the way, they are coming through. He's getting much better with giving the cue that he wants to play. Other times he just stands and barks |
