I've never experienced this with our sheepdog and kids. Oscar is an "only child" , so he's rarely been around small children, but when he is, he tends to roll over and show his belly, or try to hide behind my legs (all 115 lb of him ). Oscar is, however, very reactive to movement in general. He doesn't bark, but he definitely wants to give chase, to squirrels, birds, joggers, CARS........ I'm wondering if Miles has become anxious around small children, their unpredictability, and quick movements, and he barks to vent his anxiety. Maybe something scared him recently. How old is Miles? Have you done obedience work with him? Hopefully others who might have some insight will chime in too. Laurie and Oscar |
Hi Laurie & Oscar Thank you for the response. Miles is going on 5 years old. He's been the greatest dog so far but the past 6 months or so he's been very vocal. (wish we could understand what he is trying to say hehe) I think he has anxiety too. the quick movements of children has him barking up a storm. We don't have kids yet but i'm hoping this behavior will change. Maybe he just has to be around the kids more often. They're a fun loving breed. I wouldn't trade him for anything. Thank you for your insight! |
Ours does it to our kids but that's because she wants them to quit moving. She does it to other kids on their bikes/skateboards and goes nuts because she wants them to stop ...being the herder she is. She's never hurt anyone though. Come close to knocking them down is a different story. |
