Just curious to hear from the Floridians on what the weather is like in June. Thanks Lisa and Frankie |

My ex g/f's parents live near Ft. Myers (Estero). It'll be pretty hot & humid with afternoon t-storms popping up about 1-1:30 PM every day. They settle down by around 4-5 PM. Don't just stay on Captiva. Check out Sanibel Island as well. And some of the other area beaches like Bonita Beach and Ft. Myers Beach. And don't forget to check out Dog Beach. It's a little beach/sandbar just south of Ft. Myers Beach (right next to Lover's Key). It's an off-leash area where dogs can run around on the beach and in the water. I make it a point to stop there everytime I'm in that area, even though I've never had a dog to bring. It may be hard to find as it's just a pull-off from the road, but it's there. It's about halfway between Bonita Beach and Ft. Myers Beach on Estero Blvd. (County Highway 865), just north of Lover's Key State Park. It's address is: 8600 Estero Blvd., Bonita Beach, Fort Myers Beach, FL 34134 Another cool attraction in the area is the Henry Ford-Firestone museum. This is in Ft. Myers proper. Really neat. And there are a few nature walk places in the area and spots where you can rent a canoe for a leisurely paddle. I love the west coast of Florida. If I were rich I'd live there in the winter and back here in CNY for the summer. I just hope the oil spill doesn't ruin this area. That would be a shame. |
Thats my fear. We want to get there to see things incase the oil spill gets down there. I so want to see a manatee in the wild. 2 years ago we stayed right at the bridge before you go over to Sanibel. It's the most beautiful area I have ever been in. We could have walked on the beach all day. We only get 3 nights there I can't get alot of time off of work this summer. Thanks for all of the information Mark. Lisa and Frankie |
You guys have been through so much with Frankie lately I'm glad you can have some fun |
The temps have been around 90F for a while so that is what I would expect them to stay at all Summer. Have fun in Florida! I have swam with 14 Manatees at Sebatian Inlet a couple of years ago. Manatees like warm water and would go into the Inlet when a storm was coming in that is why there were so many. They are so huge and have such big noses. I hope you get a chance to at least see some in the wild. |
I've swam with the manatees a couple of times. They're such gentle giants. I'm not sure you will see many of them in June, though. They tend to leave Florida during the summer for cooler waters. They like water temps around 72 degrees F. You may be able to find a boat tour that knows where some manatees are during the summer. The best time and place for manatee interaction is around March up in Homosassa Springs which is on Crystal River. That's much further north (approx 3-4 hours). I think that area may be manatee central for the U.S. |
Another nice place to go is Caya Costa Island. Just north of Captiva. When we went there the only way to get there was by boat. So we chartered a ride out, they dropped us off, we spent the day & they picked us up at 3PM. Very private, not commercialized at all (take your own food & drink) & the water was turquoise! |
