Happy Decoration Day! |
Same to you Lisa! Ron, what are you decorating |
I think that before it became "Memorial Day" it was called "Decoration Day" because graves of fallen veterans were decorated with flags. |
Ron, I hate to say it but today they said on the TV, Memorial Day "in the old days" was called decoration day! I might add, I remember it named this day too Ooops showing our ages I guess! I join you! Enjoy the weekend whatever you may call it! |
Ron, after you called it decoration day it made me remember when I was young I used to help my dad put flags on the veterans graves. I carried the flag bundles and he had his list of names and we would track through those cemetaries for hours. He's 82 years old and still does that every Memorial day. Lisa and Frankie |
Who remembers that "Traditional" Memorial Day is May 30th? |
violet wrote: Who remembers that "Traditional" Memorial Day is May 30th? I Do!!!!! And the reason I can remember that is my Father-in-law's birthday was on May 30th! So we always had a Memorial Day / birthday picnic! I can also remember one Memorial Day when we had SNOW FLURRIES! Just a few but SNOW FLURRIES none the less! |
I do!!! Now the need for a 3 day weekend over rides history, National Holiday Act, 1971 changed it. Have been several attempts to change it back, but no go. Remember this Ron? We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies. |
