How is the water therapy going? |
Poor Tonka with the injury. Do you know how he did it? I hope the hydrotherapy works. |
It seems to be working wonders actually... Tonka has had arthritis for years, so he wasn't nearly strong enough to manage on three legs and was at serious risk for tearing the other ligament. We've had a few treatments now and he's already showing improvement. He still walks with a significant limp, but is moving faster and smoother already. I would definitely recommend it to all older dogs, not just the injured ones. I checked out all the centers in my area- most are expensive $75-200 per treatment, but affordable ones can be found. The one I'm using is just $30 a session. |

(He's 11/#130lbs/and has bad arthritis) Probably because of the tear, he fell down the stairs outside my condo onto the slate landing. That's where the kneecap came in. |

Ouch! poor guy, getting old is hard |
If the dog is DH or in some other way structurally cra**y, it puts too much pressure on the ligaments. That was Sam. In bigger dogs cruciate ligament surgery doesn't last, they just tear it again unless the dog is "rebuilt." TPLO surgery for example. Harry is built.......badly. The vet, ortho trained, just shakes her head and says she doesn't understand all that is wrong with him, but since he's gets around without yelping and is just a happy dog, don't worry...just keep him skinny. |
Tonka is not a candidate for surgery. With his age and arthritis, we are just keeping him comfortable w/ Tramadol, skinny and as strong as possible. |
Poor guy. My boy Frankie has been doing water therapy for gosh I think almost 2 months. It's been great for him. We noticed improvement right away. Even alot more muscle tone in his back legs. I wish we could do it forever. Keep up the good work Tonka and good luck. Lisa and Frankie |
