Urgent! Need Rescue in BC

Who would have thought I'd be asking as I'm usually the one taking in rescues. The SPCA in my area informed they have a OES in isolation and they need to contact an OES rescue. I remember a woman named Judy was involved several years ago as well as a couple on the Island. If anyone knows how they can be reached I'll pass on the info to the SPCA.
I am unable to bring home a male dog at this time due to my three boys..Merlin is the culprit.

I'll keep checking emails for the info as I just arrived home but am taking a group of students out this evening.

If someone knows the numbers please either post them here or via PM.

Thanks guys!
Marianne

Thank you Ron. I emailed the contact person at the SPCA and asked that she contact them.

Marianne
Hi Marianne, Where are you located in BC? What SPCA should we contact, or did you have success in contacting a rescue group? Sadly we had to put down our beautiful 12 year old girl Molly, a couple of weeks ago. We are a long way from over our grief, but we have started the long arduous path of starting to look for a companion for our lonely male dog. Any assistance would be appreciated. Wendy
Hi,
he's at the surrey SPCA and the contact person is Ana Marie. It's a dire situation as he is supposed to be put down. Not due to his disposition which is why the shelter staff is so upset. They've made a special consideration and will let me spring him free of charge but I need a place for him to go as I have 3 males at home.
Marianne
Hi Marianne, Can you tell me more about him. I tried going onto the Surrey SPCA, but no OESs are listed. How old is he, where was he found, what is the situation, is there a photo? etc. Why are they so urgent to put him down when their website declares they try to find homes for all their animals, including transferring them to other less crowded BC SPCAs? You can send me a personal e-mail, or we can talk on the phone. Thanks, Wendy :?
Sorry for the delay in responding as this weekend was the week we were showing my previous home for appointments and viewings and I had 54 respondents to reply to.
Now this is karma at play here. One person called and cancelled and mins later the phone rang and it was the shelter.

The contact person was overwhelmed as the previous week they had a seizure of 26 dogs, 23 of them pups in extreme medical distress. This week they were flooded with 15 puppies and the potential adopters were being interviewed by the contact person. Not to mention it's kitten season and there are also many young cats and dogs who will not be adopted as a result. This shelter is a kill shelter sadly as unlike most other areas they are flooded with pets and not enough homes.

The boy is in iso...he's a senior, shaved as his body is covered with cuts to his legs and a large one on his neck- this could be due to a bad groom job as he came in badly matted. He's purebred and from a breeder, was a stud, intact male...EXTREMELY LOVING AND WELL BEHAVED!!!!!!!!! Has one Panda girl blue eye and the other brown.

Back to the story about the call. She started talking about his being due to be put down as he will need to have a lump aspirated, checked and neutered. I'm used to these types of lumps as I've had several seniors and while I'm not an expert they appear to be the benign old age lumps they get.The shelter is so overwhelmed by the recent pup seizure and younger animals the call was to have him put down due to lack of being able to spare the medical cost. No other reason.

I hear her say "hold on" and call to other staff to please take the OES for a walk who is in iso as he hasn't gone that day. I was booked for appointments from 10 am to 7pm but mentioned Karma played it's hand, due to the 1 cancellation. Kaj and I will be there in 15 mins to take him for his walk, I tell them. He never met us and allowed us to check his ears, check between his toes, teeth, eyes, didn't pull on the leash and even came face to face with several shelter dogs and did a bum wiggle. After the walk we entered the shelter and it was pure pandamonium with at least 15 bodies crammed in the reception area and aprox 4 staff and another dog. He wasn't fazed at all with all the commotion. What a gooooood boy!!! Two little children stood next to him and waved to him...he sat. He has a wonderful disposition and although we only spent 45 mins with him..we both knew within mins this was one who deserved a second chance.

I suspect he may have been showed in the past as when I checked his body over - he stood as if at attention.

I took oodles of pics and I will post them. You will see his cuts/bad groom job and generally will see his unkept appearance but what a wonderful soul. Our hearts were breaking what can we do??? We have our three boys and can't bring an intact male in the home and financially are cash strapped at this moment. (double morgage for 15 months due to the flood/sewer backup/fence damage ect) We were hopefully going to see a light at the end of the tunnel this weekend with finally renting my previous home and I even brought the boys back to the new place now that the insurance company has finally finished.

Still some of you may remember why I bought this property in the first place....in memory of Riviera...the dog I couldn't save and never forgot. It was as if history was repeating itself. But this time the manager stepped in and said...we trust you and will release him to you. This is extremely unusual and not something the shelter normally does but they personally know me due to the fostering I've done for many years for them.
they will release him to us on Tues as I can't pick him up before that time. Kaj will stay with him at the previous home as our rental agreement with new tenants gives us aprox 3 wks to make arrangements to find
him a placement or a rescue that will take him on. They trusted us enough to know we will be responsible and will give us full disclosure on Tues.

I will posted photos - just waiting for approval.
Wow, what a story. Amazing.

(Pics approved too.)
Thank you so much Ron for such speedy approval!!

Here's some of the pics.

The saddest soul
Image

You can see lots of gunk under his eyes cut on his leg and what appears to be dried blood?skin? on top of his head- crusty.

scabs on his rear end

Mins after meeting this shows this good boys dispositionImage

Yes, he's intact although he's aprox 8 or 9 years old
Image

The shelter was full of people but he was calm and sat quietly (that's his head showing) Notice all the pet food donations on the floor behind the people's legs? My guys would be pulling trying to get at that good stuff. Not this boy, he continued to sit quietly.

A big smile for us for taking him for a walk

Never once jumped up, very calm docile boy who allowed touching all over his body and did not react to traffic, crowds or other dogs.

He deserves a forever home and I know there are kind souls out there that would be willing to give him that.

If he was a show dog born and registered in Canada he would have a tattoed or microchip, as all dogs registered with the CKC must be identified by a microchip or tatoo. That information would lead you to his breeder, who if reputable show breeder, may be very surprised to learn how he ended up.
They will do full disclosure on tuesday, but they always black out previous owners name. However, I was informed the "breeder" was told where he was and chose not to take him. I won't judge at this time as I don't know the circumstances and I don't want to embarass anyone on a public forum.
I spent two hours with him today, cleaned him up with no problem. The dried blood on his head is due to a wart and bad clippers. So are the other cuts due to inexperienced hands shaving an oes.
On my phone at the moment but I'll keep you all posted.
What a sweet story...please keep us up to date with his progress!
I love seniors!!!! :ghug:

(oopsie Donner's Mom here)
Ooooh... what a sweet, sweet boy.
He'll make someone a wonderful companion.

Thanks for saving him, Marianne!
I just want to HUG you for doing this! :D

Hi Marianne, Just wondering... :lmt: How is it going with the old gentleman? Have you found out any more info about his past & is there a BC rescue group that can help you rehome him? Thanks for saving the old fellow. It looks from your pictures that he needs some TLC.
