My mother LOVED John Wayne...I wish she could have been to this town in 2007 for the celebration. Unfortunately it sounds like licensing of John Wayne took a toll on the "annual" event. http://www.telluridewatch.com/view/full ... -Cancelled? |

Ron, That was really neat. I enjoyed it. Such beautiful areas. My father is (was) a HUGE John Wayne fan. He would watch his movies over and over. Sadly now that Alzheimer's has the best of him he can't remember who John Wayne is and if we were to put a movie on now for him he'd last about 10 minutes before losing interest. |
Very early in dating DH, we discovered we both were big Duke fans! We'd drive 40 or 50 miles to go to movie house to see movies. We still giggle one Saturday at the theater in Vail (not long after "True Grit" came out) the waiting line was long waiting for the theater to open...most unusual. A new generation had discovered John Wayne. When the theater lights went down and the movie began there was a loud groan when they saw the publish date.....some 20-30 years before. It wasn't a new movie. Some got up to leave but I said loudly, "Sit down, it's one of his best." Bold talk for....well anyway. They did and throughly enjoyed the move "Red River." Later DH regaled me with tales of a friend of his in the Forest Service who was the liason for True Grit (and other movies made in the San Juan mountain area).....out at the shoots making sure the company didn't deface the forest, etc. Apparently John Wayne would show up at the local grocery store each night to buy a steak for dinner....ladies (and guys) would pack the butcher counter waiting for the Duke each night. Thanks for putting up the site about Ridgeway........sorry the event had to be cancelled! |
