Bad reaction to shots???

Khloe had her 14 week puppy shots this evening at 5pm. By 6:30pm she was vomitting and diving onto the floor rubbing her face on the ground. She finally got herself under control and took a nice walk with my husband. Could she have had a reaction to the shots or was it something else? I am with her now and she seems to be okay. I am a little nervous. Anybody ever had experience with this?

The vomiting kind of makes me nervous. I work at an emergency clinic and it's not unheard of for pups to have reactions to their shots, it sounds like she is having an allergic reaction. Is her face/neck/eyes/nose swollen at all?

If it's not too bad, call your local emergency clinic and ask them what dosage of Benadryl you should give to her for her specific age and weight. If they're nice, or not too busy, they will be happy to help you. Just plain Benadryl...no additives or anything like that. If it's really bad, you can bring her into the emergency clinic and they can give her a shot of Benadryl which will calm the reaction faster, and possibly a prescription. It might cost you a bit of $$$ though, the emergency clinics tend to be a bit more pricey in their office visit than the regular vet.

Hope I could help!!!
Also....tell them about the vomiting. I haven't seen that too often...
and mention it to your own vet......have them note it in her records. Yes, dogs can have reactions to vaxs.......and it gets worse with each new vax.
Anything like this should go into their vet record folder. I have a boy who has a sensitivity to a certain drug widely used for diarrhea. It is noted in his vet records, any notes that go with him when he is boarded & we even noted it in all puppy folders for puppies that have him in the pedigree. It's rare but it could pop up again in one of the get & this way the owners & vet would be several steps ahead of where we were at the time of the reaction.
Khloe got her 14 week puppy shots and when we got her home she started going nuts. She was diving on the ground, scratching, and vomitting. The pink around her eyes and mouth was bright red and she was not acting herself AT ALL. It scared us so bad. Just about the time we were getting ready to head to the ER with her she calmed down. She ended up throwing up in the night several more times. Has anyone had this reaction to the vaccines before????

Thanks! I posted again b/c I thought this one didn't work. Anyway, she did calm down but I couldn't get benadryl down her. She ended up throwing up more. I will be sure to call the vet this morning and let them know.
How is Khloe doing? It does sound like this was a reaction to her shots. When Oscar got his first set with us at 14 weeks, he got diarrhea, panted like crazy (more than usual!), and turned the brightest pink, practically fuscia, in color. He did not vomit. The vets gave him Benadryl to quell the reaction. For the next vaccines, they started separating them out, about a week apart, so he never got two at the same time again. Plus, I gave him Benadryl before the shots, and for a day or two after to keep everything down to a dull roar. It seemed to minimize his reactions.

When Oscar was two years old, we stopped automatically vaccinating him for everything. Now we have his blood measured for antibodies (titer testing) to rabies, parvo, distemper, etc. to see if he even requires a booster vaccine. Oscar is now six and has not needed a repeat of anything except rabies, which he only gets every three years.

Yes, we also had vomitting with shots. Which shots did she get? If it was Lepto, then watch her colsely and get to the ER f her face swells or neck or throat. Hope she feels better.
Khloe is doing much better today. She ended up having a rough night, but today has been okay. She did have swelling around her mouth and tons of vomitting. The craziest part was just how she was running around crashing into walls and being soooo restless. Her heart was racing too. I called the vet today and she said that next time they would give her something to counteract it. She also mentioned doing either a half dose or spreading them out. Not sure. I am going to be nervous in 3 weeks when we do this again. The shots she had were distemper complex, Lyme disease, and coroavirus.
