Seatbelt for my puppy

Hello! This is my first time posting so I hope I am in the correct spot. I am a first time OES owner (not sure if I own her or if she owns me at this point), and I am also a first time dog owner. I recently bought a car-my first car and yes, I bought it because of the dog.

I have been trying to figure out how to best restrain her in the back seat. She doesn't attempt to jump up front, but I think that she should be restrained anyway in case of an accident. Does anyone have any suggestions for a comfortable form of restraint? She is six months old and around 60 pounds at this point. Visits to the local Pet Smart stores have been unsuccessful. Many seatbelts and booster seats for little dogs, but nothing suitable for my sheepdog. Any advice you can give would be most appreciated. Loving these forums, I am learning alot!!

We have a "Dog Seatbelt" which is helpful in restraining Bailee in our car. You need to have your pup in a harness first. One end of the belt connects to the harness and the other has a "loop" on the end through which the seatbelt goes and gets locked into the seatbelt lock. Our Daughter in Law told us about it when she got one for there Keeshond. We picked it up at either Pet Smart or Petco.
Oh, by the way, "WELCOME" from Bailee in Williamstown, NJ
Welcome from St. Louis!!!

and YES!!! A seatbelt for your OES is important for both of your safety!! There have been discussions on the forum about seatbelts in the past, so you may want to do a search for the topic.

I purchased mine from PetMart, but you can probably google "canine seatbelts" and get one online.

We do love to see pictures of sheepdogs, so PLEASE post some when you have time!!! :D :D :D :D :D
Personally I prefer crates to seatbelts....

Welcome :)
Crates are probably fine "IF" you don't have a 4 door car. Since we just purchased our new car and decided not to go the SUV route we have to use the seatbelt. We put a couple of blankets over the leather seats and Bailee does fine. He even has his own A/C vents.
I think my dog should decide for himself if he should wear a seatbelt.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately a crate is not a possibility as the car is not big enough. For those that have found belts/harnesses that work, do you know the brand name and the size you use for your dogs? I live in Canada, so hopefully I can find the same brands up here. As for pictures, I have assigned that task to my much more technical husband. I just keep hearing sighs from the other side of the room as he looks at Mady's puppy pictures. How can she be this big in such a short time!
Try Ren's, I think there is one near Woodstock but they do have a website. They carry everything. I use PetEdge in the States but shipping may be costly.
We bought a harness for Rudy and we just thread it through the seatbelt. Works great. When he's wearing his backpack instead we connect the leash to the backpack and then tie it to the seatbelt. It works too.

We were looking for the seatbelt one, but the store only had XS size (tee hee) so they suggested we try the standard harness. It works fine for us.
