ANDERSON, SC - Sheepdog needs help!! I AM SPEECHLESS...And coming from me, that says a lot! Please read the following. PLEASE CROSS POST TO ANY OLD ENGLISH SHEEP DOG RESCUES! THIS DOG NEEDS A FOSTER HOME NOW!!! The lady who has rescued him needs help! *CONTACT: Sonja 864-906-7559 Hey guys, I live across the street from a country church, and the preacher called me over there this morning to check on a dog that showed up on his back porch. When I got there I found the sweetest dog, emaciated, but sweet. Now for those of you with a week stomach, the pictures that follow are not pretty. The dog was severely matted, covered in maggots and had a chain embedded in his neck at some point and had partially begun to re-grow into another part. The chain did not have to be surgically removed, but the latch was so covered with ooze from his gaping wounds, that we could not dislodge the spring to release it. Sadly this pup is just over a year old. He has been treated at Magnolia, and I am covering the cost of all his vet bills, both current, and the ones that are sure to follow. The only place I have to keep him is under a lean-to. He has open wounds, and has been shaved, and my lean to has a dirt floor. This dog deserves better but, this is the best I can do. I am hunting a foster or a forever home. Please network with all you know and also any sheepdog rescues. Please call if you can think of anything. Thanks, sonja |

I hope someone can help. I don't see the pics? |
Where is this poor baby, now, NC, SC or Maryland? Also, what city? Dianne in Charleston, SC |
Oh heck the dog is in south carolina I must be brain dead Ron can you change for me please??I could not down load the pics Maybe I could email the org e mail to someone?? Sorry for the confusion Having a lot of knee pain today............ |
The pictures are tragic to anyone that loves dogs and especially this breed. http://untilyoufindme.com/BoyInSC-Chained.jpg Sorry Ron, I never took time to learn to upload pics I spoke with Sonja yesterday, the lady that was keeping the dog safe and provided initial vet care and a shave down for this boy. She said an all breed rescue was assisting him. From what I've heard, both OES rescues working in the state of South Carolina have also been in contact. But note that the rescue that currently has the poor boy looks like a good one. Praying he'll heal... I think Kathy said he's got all kinds of worms including heartworms. I'll try to find out tomorrow what rescue is actually assisting him so people who want to, can donate to his care. |
Those pictures are HORRID and that poor, poor dog |
Hoping a rescue steps up. If not he can heal here but I wanted southern rescues to know about him I have an awful time with Pics!! For someone to let a dog get in this shape well grrrrrrr |
Wouldn't it be nice if someone along the way had microchipped the boy... |
Sorry, I didn't see this.... I just spoke with one of the girls with the all breed rescue. He is at the vets so, no news on him today. They sound like a wonderful group who also works with deaf dogs He is in good hands now and just needs TLC and lots of doctoring.... I am sure emotionally too |
That is the saddest thing I've seen a long time. 6Girls wrote: Wouldn't it be nice if someone along the way had microchipped the boy... You're right, although I've got a feeling a few of us would be in trouble right about now. |
Quote: You're right, although I've got a feeling a few of us would be in trouble right about now. YEP! I will never understand people! Hope this baby heals from all of his wounds and finds a furever home that will spoil him rotten. No baby deserves this. |

I tried to call today but only got their answering machine. They're probably being bombarded with phone calls. I'm emailing to see if they will be keeping this poor boy or if he'll be moving on to another rescue. I bet they keep him there... they sound like a dedicated group. |

oh my this is so sick person to do this to any dog.. |
**UPDDATE** I just rercieved this from the CEO of the rescue group that is helping Gus... "Thank you for your offer to help. Now Gus is at our vet in a sterilized area. He is being held there briefly and then will come to me at my home to foster. When with us Gus will be assessed and then placed on the website for adoption. If you would like to cross post this information to anyone who may be interested in Gus that would be very much appreciated. They can go to our website and fill out an adoption application for him. http://www.diamondrescue.org We will begin to review applications although it may be some time before he is ready to be released. " I was so worried he may not even make it through the weekend but, Gus is hanging in!!!! Thank you all for keeping Gus in your thoughts this weekend!! |
Get well soon Gus!!! Thanks for the update Kathy! |

What? I'm a bit confused by this??? I mentioned hoping Gus was microchipped. "Wouldn't it be nice if someone along the way had microchipped the boy..." A chip would allow authorities to track down and charge the owner with neglect. You said, "You're right, although I've got a feeling a few of us would be in trouble right about now." I thought you meant someone here was not providing proper care. I guess I took it wrong. What did you mean? |

Quote: I think what she meant was some of us would be in trouble for tracking the "person" down! That's the way I took it. Whoever allowed this happen needs to be held accountable and charged with animal neglect and cruelty!! Throw the book at them! |
Well, duh! Thanks for explaining, Kath. Multitasking has gotten me again... |

We'd have a few search parties out there for the people that did this to poor Gus! Glad to hear he is hanging on. |
Thank god he was found when still young so his suffering could end! He can now live a wonderful life with people who care about his welfare and willing to give all kinds of love. God help the previous owners for their extreme cruelty towards this good dog. |
Does anyone have an update on this boy's condition? I have been on the Diamond in the Ruff website and there is no information anymore regarding his progress. |
Gus(now Samson) has been adopted and lives a very cushy life now with another OES and a Beardie! He looks awesome and has a great new family! |
Thanks for the good news! |

This is absolutely awful, the previous owners should be taken out and chained to a tree...after the chain is tightened into their skin of course !! What are people thinking when they get a dog and then don't take proper care of them...baffles me! |
Ok I looked at those pictures, and they broke my heart. I'm so glad to hear this poor sweetie is in a good home now, it's asking a lot, but could we get pictures posted of Samson now? It would be consoling to see him having the life he deserves. |

I'm so happy this one had a happy ending. Those photos were horrific and no dog should ever suffer like that. Marianne |

It never ceases to amaze me what lovin' can do! |
OOOPSSS....forgot to post it! Yup, this is the same dog! I can't believe how fast he healed! |
Looks like he healed fast, inside and out. What a great smile! Looks really happy there to me! |
Sheepdogs always look so happy when they're loved! I'm so happy for him. |
I'm so proud to be part of this forum. The members are outstanding and I'm amazed and in awe of Donner's mom and her ability to find a new life for this poor unfortunate pup. If anyone finds the person responsible, I will happily fly down and be part of the lynch mob. I'll bring a chain saw & scalpel. |

Thank you but, I had nothing to do with this fella being taken care of.... We offered to take him but, an all breed rescue in SC had already taken him in I just checked in on the boy now and again! |
Hey Wigglebum...we have a chainsaw here too. I've got a nice set of Henckles steak knives too. I'm in! And I'll bring my teacher voice. That's even more painful than sharp objects and power tools. |
HMMMMMM..... We seem too much alike traciels28. Is it because we are both teachers or both Canadians? The "teacher stare" can also cause severe trembles or soiled underwear. The person responsible better beware. |
My stare is the stuff of legends too! I think we really are kindred spirits. I had a little fellow one year (gr 2) who was always out of his seat. Sure enough, this one particular day he was dancing down an aisle making whooping sounds, completely engrossed in his own world. He happened to be coming directly toward the back table where I was sitting with a group of students. I said to the kids, "Watch this." It was innocent enough. I just figured that he'd eventually look up (when he ran out of aisle or hit right into the table) and that maybe seeing me glaring AND a group of kids also staring increduously at him might help). I had no malicious intent. Well he looked up at me and it startled him so much that, in mid dance step, he lost his balance and stumbled backward, hitting the floor. (There was a carpet, and an extra padded mat/rug where he landed so he was in no way injured.) Of course the kids were convinced I threw him to the mat with the power of my mind alone, since I never moved from my chair. I tried all year to convince them otherwise, but they kept reminding me that I TOLD them (1) All teachers are part Jedi, and (2) Even for a Jedi, my midicholorians (and I'm sure that's not the way it's spelled) were extremely high. I still stand behind these two facts to be true by the way. From that day on that little guy always looked up at me, and tried to make eye contact before getting out of his seat to do something he shouldn't. He further came to believe I had superpowers as every time he'd seek out eye contact from me I'd simply say, "Oh sweetie, you don't want to do that." So he'd sit back down. Soon he reserved his mischief exclusively for the playground on my non duty days. Four years later his little sister was in my room. She had many good questions to ask about the Jedi. Hope I didn't come across as too evil in that tale, but it still makes me smile just a little. |
That's hilarious! I have adult friends that will give me a startled look, and remind me that I have my "teacher's face" on. So once I checked it out in the mirror....... Yup it's scary! |
Great story! I can imagine how the story became epic in the schoolyard. Have you noticed that kids kind of make a path for you now when you walk down the hallway? Do they call you Darth? |
new bumpersticker, Jedi Teacher Onboard! scary stuff, they only had paddles in my day. oh, and the nuns had those damn pointers, where the phrase "reach out and touch someone" started. |
