Someone asked this a couple of months ago- at the time I said...
Woof is six months old (he's now nine months)- and still nips on occasion (like, every day!) - I'm new also, to both the breed and the forum, but others advised me when I had the same problem! - It seems to be down to a couple of things. a) Dogs don't have hands - they use thier mouths to "feel" new things b) teething - just like us, chewing things helps relieve discomfort! c) The pup is testing it's boundaries in normal puppy play - see below Advice on how to stop it? I've been told to.. i) Yelp like a puppy - this tells your dog he's hurt you (just like his littermates would have done whilst at play) ii) Give him a firm "no" iii) Walk away from him / put him in a different room iv) Give him something else to chew iii) and iv) work best for my Woof - Good Luck! |
thanks you for such a quick response. actually we have tried all of those ideas. I did see your response earlier. |
Hi Debbie,
Our Bam-Bam recently turned 3 years old. We had the same problems with him as a pup. All I can say is Pateince, Pateince, and more Pateince. I agree with the previous answer , whine like he hurt you and watch his reaction. I think the OES is just so full of energy and happiness that they just can't contain themselves. Their focus is non-existent as puppies. Enjoy and do your best, he will grow out of alot of his puppy ways. Bam-Bam knew all along what we wanted him to do, he just chose his on good time to listen. (Very Smart Dogs with Minds of their Own.) Good Luck, Bam-Bam's Mum (Sharon) |
