Has anyone used the Brita pitchers?
I cannot believe I am posting under the Healthy Lifestyles section.  I am starting to feel guilty over the amount of bottled waters I go through. Has anyone used the Brita water pitcher? Are they dishwasher safe? How often would you wash them since you are just putting water in it? Do they have dishwasher safe water bottles that I can fill and take with me to all of Harry's activities? I would be more consciencious but I would like some convenience. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| Cant speak to dishwasher safe since I don't have one Dish pan hands for me. Brita helped but didn't solve all our water problems: minerals include white floaters and smell and taste. Yes, very hard water. Still, it helped but the water didn't come out like bottled water. I did find you need to clean the pitcher often because the water (at least our unchlorinated well water) would get slimey if left in the pitcher more than a few days.  I eventually gave up on it--the pitcher got ugly-- but have thought about giving it another try as I do like water, just not the stuff straight from the tap. As for bottles, no need for a Brita bottle, just pour into whatever you want to carry the water in. |
^^^ditto, ditto, and ditto^^^  We also are on a well, with SUPER hard, mineral-y water. We gave up on the britta, and now mostly just buy purified water in gallon jugs, rather than cases of tiny bottles. I hate to admit it, but our main motivation wasn't drinking more (nice and healthy) water...but to stop murdering coffee maker after coffee maker with mineral build up!  |

| I don't put mine in the dishwasher, but have had many many brita filters and currently a pur one. I thought with the addition of flavored water, I'd make losing weight a cinch. The button you push to release water used to work but now I always have issues with it so I manually poke a hole in the flavor thingy and squeeze it in my water each time. Same problem when I bought a new one. I love them!! I prefer brita b/c they have bigger pitchers (I drink a gallon to a gallon and a half a day just to function my kidney properly). |

It's awesome to fill and put in the fridge for a nice, cold drink. Josh is REALLY bad about not filling the jug though I agree about the flavor option... can't get the darned thing to want to work! But, it's a really good investment none-the-less! |
I've had Britta pitchers for over 15 years. It's just me, so I go through maybe a pitcher a day (I also use the water for coffee making). It's probably a bacteria-soup though. I only wash it when I change the filter, which is about every 2 months.  |
| When I lived in DC and Philly, I needed to filter water so I've used them all, including the Brita pitcher (which was never enough and occupied too much space) and the pur faucet adapter that you twist down for filtered or up for regular (for washing dishes), which was pretty good but kind of annoying on the faucet because it could loosen and then splutter. So what I ended up really liking was the under-sink water filter that has a separate faucet that you can put through one of the holes in your sink. The GE dual stage water filter lasts long and is really simple to twist and replace. I liked it so much that I also put one in the bathroom. |
| I use the PUR filters brand. We have had the pitchers, but they got empty too fast. I have the bigger rectangle container that has a spigot on one end now - works great! We have well water, but no slimey problem. We've used them for years and years. Todd makes his coffee w/ it every day! |
| We have had the brita water pitcher for several years now. I love it. I do throw it in the dishwasher and have never had a problem. I dont ever use heat to dry my dishes though.. so maybe that helped it to not get warped it the hot dishwasher. I dunno. We use it and fill it all the time. I always make sure I have a filter stashed in the kitchen somewhere so I don't get caught one freaky time without one to change when I need to. I've never had that slimy water issue others spoke of.. but I don't have hard water either. We use it to fill our own waterbottles all the time. We love our brita. I don't mind refilling it often. Doesn't take that long. I've never tried the pur brand ones. I always wondered about the flavor thing.. if it was worth it or not. |
| I'm home now - and I lied! We had Pur ones before, but the rectangular container with the spigot is a Brita. OK - Todd always fills it and I never look that close This is the one we have - just an older version. It uses that same filters as the pitchers (mine does, anyway!) - http://www.brita.com/products/water-dis ... /ultramax/ It sets right inside the door on the edge of a shelf, so we just need to open the door, flip the spigot and fill the glass. |
| we have had a Brita for about 5 years. And it may sound gross, but I don't recall every washing it. Maybe Adam does it; he's the one that changes the filters. But our water tastes fine, and its never "slimy". I think that would freak me out. Starbuck's a while back sold a double lined plastic re-useable version of their cold drinking glasses, complete with re-useable straw. I use that for my brita water. I add ice and a lemon wedge and take it in the car or down to the yard when I play with the dogs or do gardening. here's a link to the cup; I don't think I paid that much for it though. | We have the Brita pitchers here in the UK, but not the one with teh tap thingy- that looks great! We have had two pitchers (upgraded to a larger one) but have given up because they both went slimy after a couple of days & I got sick of having to clean it all the time. We have very hard chalky water here. |

| My favorite water jug is made by Thermos. I bought several brands a year ago to use for work and play - this is by far the best. The only negative is it's not insulated, but I drink room temp water and teas and Crystal Light paks in it most all the time.. It has fallen to the ground on pavement and never cracked or popped open and it does not leak when tipped or upside down. I love the flippy lid on the top too - easy to use. It also has a locking feature for extra safety when I throw it in a tote bag. It also has a counter feature to keep track of how many bottles I've drank each day. It is called the Thermos Intak Hydration bottle - http://www.thermos.com/Product_detail.a ... ductID=943 I don't have a dishwasher, so I'm not sure how it does with that...but it says its safe. |

I do have an insulated one to keep things really cold... I cant tell you which I use more. They are both around all the time.  |
