I went in for my aspiration yesterday. Since I had time to think about it, I scared the crap out of myself imagining all kinds of things going wrong. One bad thing that happened that I expected is that it hurt. Just a little pinch(needle going in) and its going to burn a little(little hell) and then it was mostly frozen. You will feel a little pressure(yeah, like a lot). How can you have a needle stuck in your back and feel in it your butt? Pins and needles all the way to the toes? So as I'm still on the table, he tells me he got half of it. To me that tells me he couldn't get the rest...yeah I know, dumb, I didn't ask. As we are walking out, he says that surgery really isn't that bad, they only make a 4inch incision. Again, dumb, I didn't ask...Does this mean I need surgery to get the rest out? Today I'm having a lot of pain in my left cheek(not the one on my face) and it hurts to walk. I wonder..to myself.. if maybe I have sore muscles because my other cheek hurts a little too. I was out in the yard yesterday digging holes to plant the bushes I bought. I knew if I asked dh to do it, he would have, when the plants are all dried up. So anyway, tomorrow I call the Dr's office to make a followup and get my questions answered. I can't believe I was so mute after the aspiration, that is not me. I always ask questions. Aside to Cindy...let me know how it goes as it looks like I "may" be heading in that direction. |

Owwwwwwwwww.... |
Definitely owww!! I would have been so busy not yelping that I wouldnt have been able to ask questions either. All the best! |
I know what it's like to be silenced from having focused on not coming unglued, too. It's surprising when it happens, normally I never shut up! Write down your questions and take notes when the Dr is answering. That helps me to remember what to ask and not miss a question. I'm sorry it was so painful. Did it give you any relief at all for your back pain? |
Pam, I think forgetting to ask questions is fairly common. I hate the doctor's pain barometer - has he tried sticking that needle in himself? Besides everyone has a different tolerance for pain. Val and I recently were "lab rats" for a shock collar and she had a much higher tolerance for pain than me. Writing down all your questions first is a good idea. And if you forget to ask something don't feel bad about calling back and asking it later. It is your body and you are paying them richly to beat up on it. Simon's Mom wrote: Today I'm having a lot of pain in my left cheek(not the one on my face) At least he didn't remove your sense of humor. I hope you start feeling better soon. |
After enduring pain, the last thing you do is think about questions. You want out of there!! MDs forget about that.....the jerks. Write down your questions before going in.........and don't forget to use your cheat sheet........mark off each question as it is answered.....and make note of the answers. I'm one for suddenly remembering something I was told.......weeks later. Brain dead in the doc's office. |
Pam, I had the surgery to remove the same type cyst today. Had a great neurosurgeon and the procedure took about an hour..so I was told! I came home this evening and am feeling good and haven't taken any thing for pain, but probably will before going to sleep. My incision is tiny, with just a bandaid for cover. Sorry for your painful experience. I have limited activity..no bending, no heavy lifting etc. for awhile. I need to read those discharge instructions since I was a little impaired when the nurse told them to me Of course Cuatro with his 8 month old puppy brain doesn't understand these changes in his world!! |
