When ours were little we actually used an old baby travel cot to keep them 'contained' at bedtime (as they both slept in our room!) which worked quite well. You could always remove one of the sides to allow access to a crate at a later date? I bought the travel cot cheaply from a friend who no longer needed it so it was a cheap way to find out it worked! |
I use one of these :- http://www.croftonline.co.uk/products.a ... FREEDOM900 Go on ebay if you want one as you will find other brands a lot cheaper.Put a search in for puppy pen or dog pen |
Daisymog wrote: When ours were little we actually used an old baby travel cot to keep them 'contained' at bedtime would never have thought of that! will look into it, sounds like a good solution.. sixpence wrote: I use one of these :- http://www.croftonline.co.uk/products.a ... FREEDOM900 I'd seen those and thought they looked perfect (but not so perfect on the ££s ) - had looked at ebay but stupidly only used 'puppy pen' as search.. loads more come up with dog pen (I'm a little puppy fixated ) so maybe it will be possible after all.. |
I'm not sure what you're asking about. We used a crate and had the kitchen gated off to give our pups a large enough room to roam in but not too large where I couldn't keep track of what they were doing or what they might be eating We kept them in the crate alot in the beginning and only in the kitchen area when we were home and abe to watch. Little by little, we expanded the area of freedom... I might add, I also found that keeping a collar on with a very shor "grab it" type leash helped. I took an inexpensive nylon leash and cut it to about 12 to 15 inches. This way I could grab the leash part if things got out of control yet at the same time it wasn't very invasive to the pup. However, when we were not home, everything came off and into the crate they went. I wouldn't recommend any type leash being kept on a pup when you were not available to watch. It cou;d get caught on something with disastrous results. |
I was thinking more of times when we wouldn't be there (out of the house, or sleeping) and maybe when one or both dogs needed a time out. Crating could be an option but I didn't want to confine him from day one if he hasn't been used to it so thought the crate plus a pen attached would give him more space and the open top might not seem so much of a confinement? I'm probably imposing all of my own fears onto a puppy who really doesn't think the same way.. but at least it will make me feel better! We used the house leash with Inca for a while too.. but the cats thought it was great fun to chase |
