5 a.m. and a broken bed...

Well... I underestimated McCartney's 70lbs.

Our mattress fell to the floor this morning when he jumped on our bed at 5 a.m. :x

I think we got it all fixed, but needless to say... he hasn't even tried to jump back on the bed. I think he's scared of it.

I'd probably be the same way and looking at platform beds. Poor pup!
We have our mattress on the floor without our frame right now. We should all sleep in peace tonight knowing it won't come crashing to the ground.

If anyone has any suggestions on bed frames or how to possibly fix the one that fell so that it is more sturdy, I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Sleeping on a mattress on the ground is bringing me back to my college days. :)
HA! That is hilarious.
Haha! Very funny, hope you get some sleep!

Me too!
I bet it wasnt just the weight but the enthusiasm too. What a wake up call 8O
oh no! that is what i am afraid of. So far Gigi jumps in the bed and not problem. But when (if Bogey) is allowed out of his crate at night, that could be the breaking point.
What broke? The slats? Or it is a metal frame and the leg bent out? Or with metal sometimes the pieces come apart. My bed is metal frame and one of the legs is bending outward.....metal fatigue I believe as it is many decades old. Instead of getting a new frame, DH got some 2x6's and ripped off a bit so they would slip under the bed.....several...and the frame now rests on those with just a bit of weight on the legs.

I laugh at thought of mattress on floor.....first everyone would be on the bed with me and I'd be stuck and I'm not sure I'd be able to get back up
   I can just picture it now.

I'm with Susan... I don't know if I could get back up once I got down! HAHAHA
There were two thin hooks that were keeping the two metal slats on the sides together (and then we had a few wooden slats under it as well (for extra protection, lol). Looks like the two metal hooks have bent over time and just slipped out. I don't feel real safe putting it back together without something holding the two metal slats together.

For a year in college, I slept on a 1 inch futon mattress on the ground. Our setup right now with the mattress and box set is definitely taller than that, and not bad at all. I'm becoming quite fond of the mattress on the floor. :?
Well, you won't have to dust underneath!

You might go to a hardware store to see what they have. I'm just not picturing how those metal hooks work. Sorry. Is it in one of these sites? I see some very interesting items in these sites, maybe something to add to yours for more strength.
