I live in Fredericksburg and have contacted this poster. I told her about the NEOESR and this forum. I also told her I may be willing to foster if she turned the dog over to NEOESR. You NEVER see sheepies in this area, and I would hate for someone to bring her to a shelter (or even worse-- a kill shelter ) Maybe someone else on the forum would have more info for her, or we could find him a home! Fredericksburg is right in the middle of DC and Richmond. ~Andrea |

Did you mention for her to call her breeder about taking the dog back? |
No, I did not mention that to her. I think I just assumed she got it from a BYB. I will make sure to tell her this when she emails me back! |
Remember you also have some rescue groups in the south that might be able to help. If you get the name of the breeder sometimes phone numbers have changed etc. & people are not able to get a hold of them with dated information. Maybe someone on here would know updated information & be able to help connect. Just some thoughts......... |
Please feel free to contact me if I can help you in anyway talking to the owner. I am in NC but, can also get you in touch with Tracy and Cindy who handle a lot of the rescues in that area. Thanks for looking out for him.... |
I actually got in touch with "Grannie Annie" from NEOESR who forwarded the info to Belinda Lamm from Tarheel. I spoke with Belinda as well. The poster never responded to my e-mail, and I sent her 2...so I'm thinking we're dealing with some type of sketchy Craigslist scammer. Or maybe she was annoyed that I was recommending surrendering the dog to a rescue because she's trying to make money off of him. I looked up her address from the phone number she provided (Not that I would go over there) and she lives about 15 minutes from me! I could definitely help out if we needed to transfer him since I'm so close to her! Thanks so much for all of your concern. Hopefully we can help the pup! ~Andrea |
Sometimes it hard for an owner to let their dog go to rescue... Maybe they want to try to rehome their baby themselves. I am sure the contacts you made with NEOESR and TOESR will follow up. It may not be an easy decision for the family and sometimes it can take weeks/months for them to decide. Again, thank you for looking out for the kiddo up there! |
Update:::: The owner has contacted TOESR and is willing to work with them! Henry (the 3 yr old sheepie) is utd on all shots and AKC registered. Belinda said they are just working on a transport.....and of course I told her I would be more than happy to help!!! So, hopefully this will all work out in the end....and I may even get to take a little road trip to NC or SC in the process. |
My husband and I live in Fredericksburg and are looking into getting an OES, that's why I just joined the forum. What a coincidence! It's too bad that we aren't completely ready to dive in because this would have been the perfect opportunity! |
Welcome! You should contact the rescue and make yourself known to your local rescue now! Perhaps you'll be interested in helping out a little and meeting some sheepies, and you never know where things might lead. Nice to have you here! |

Definitely contact NEOESR or Tarheel, they are the closest rescues to VA and can definitely help! We will have to have a sheepie playdate!!! I don't know anyone in Fredericksburg with a sheepie! ~Andrea |
Thank you for the warm welcome, I will have to go check out those two rescues. I have been lurking around for a few days and I am learning a lot! I have been burned before by not having enough information so I am being cautious right now and making sure a sheepie is the right dog for us! |
