(I think that Chocolate and Flowers are covered.... unless they're novel!) |

Going out to eat? fun to maybe try a new place or favorite oldie - and spending time with the mom is always a good thing! Massage, pedicure are favorites with our family. Manicure if you like the hands pampered too. (not me, not practical with my lifestyle). day trip to somewhere that she hasn't been to yet. or an old favorite place you haven't gone to in awhile. just a few random thoughts.... |
I got both of the mom's ...cleaning supplies. Not something great to some, I guess, but I hate giving things you can't use. And when I find a hip product, I like to let them in on it. What lady isn't complaining about not having perfect shiny appliances and counters? |
I know you mentioned flowers already, but a mother's day tradition in my family is to give a flowering plant for the garden. A nice touch is to plant it for her, as well. |
My sweet husband got me a really nice firepit and setup the fountain near it with benches and flowers! I love fire! I think he's going out today to get some torches to light as well...definitely better than flowers and chocolates! We plan to spend many evenings just sitting around the fire in the cool evening here in the mountains...will also be great during the cool fall nights. |

OH, my bad, I thought it said "plant her!" No matter what you give as a gift, don't forget THE CARD! Above all, DON'T FORGET THE CARD! |
I think time spent together doing something you both enjoy is the best present ever. |
I feel so guilty. Typically, everyone comes to our house for Mothers Day, and we do a BBQ, or, New England Boil (My Mom's Favorite). Everyone is still coming here, BUT, my Mom is doing the cooking . Somehow, that doesn't seem right to me... BUT, my back is still giving me misery, and right now, I am living on pain pills. She is making lasagna and a cheesecake. My sister is making homemade garlic bread, and my brothers are showing up. My nieces are working on a sing-a-long with the little girls ( Skyler and Alayna) for entertainment. Should be a nice day, if my vicodin holds up. In answer to the original thread-- I like Laurel's idea of the planting... |

What lady isn't complaining about not having perfect shiny appliances and counters? That is one of the things we used to do for my Mom on Mother's Day. We'ld buy flats of flowers and then put them in for her. She loved it because she loved gardening, but not flowers. She loved veggie gardens, she was raised on a farm and so never was "into" flower gardens. She loved it when we (the 4 girls) would bring in the flats and plant them. The four of us planned out the garden ahead of time. Those where great times. I really miss them. |
Speaking for myself, a chance to spend time with my kids is the best gift possible. Sounds cheesy but it's true and becoming more true every year. Phone calls count where an in person visit is not possible. I know you said last minute: If you have any old photos---or recent ones, for that matter: frame a copy. Simple frames are great. Or put a few together in a simple album. Or if your budget is bigger: electronic photo album. Or a simple card with a favorite memory or heartfelt sentiment. I know, cheesy, but true! Doesn't have to be mushy--funny is great. Or just sincere. At my house, books, cds and dvds are very common gifts and always appreciated. Certificate for pampering at favorite salon. Or for performing some routine or periodic chore that you can do but she might not be able to accomplish as well as she used to or is just bothersome. I'm not there yet, but I would love it if my kids offered to clean the garage or attic or windows (or anything, really) or help in the yard. Love gardening stuff. A pot of herbs or flowers is great. Abuckie: your mom might be thrilled for the chance to be 'mom' again to her grown up kids. I know when I was a kid, I would have thought she was crazy but now I understand how nice it is to just be able to make a meal for kids spread hither and yon. |
My m-i-l gets a gift certificate for a nursery down here. My husband brings her down here twice a year, just to shop for plants. We have varieties that she can't get at home. My mother is getting a laptop and cable internet. She has dialup, but it is such a pain. I am getting a camera lens. I "need" it for my daughter's graduation next weekend. We have to drive to a camera store an hour away, just for the lens. My future d-i-l sent me flowers. |
this may sound lame to some (my husband included) but my REAL FAVORITE mothers day gift is for someone else to get up with the dogs, the kids, make the coffee, feed the cat.... etc. I JUST WANT TO SLEEP IN!!!! |
Mine is even more sad..... I asked Todd to FINALLY fix the toilet! We have one bathroom, and the inner workings are toast...it doesn't always refill after a flush. It aggravates me to no end to have to take the tank lid off and fuss with it 1st thing in the morning. I have been leaving it for him the last week - and now he sees my point! I'm at work today and will come home to a fully functional toilet! |

Last year I put a stop to Mother's Day here. DH would get me a card from the doggies.........lame. Well, now I miss it. Of course I'd rather a piece of jewelry, chocolate, flowers or dinner out, spa trip............ |
As the old adage goes, "Be Carefull What You Ask for!" |
Well, it ended up a few days late, but I have my new super flushing toilet!!! |
Woosh hoo! |
