I just want to add that he is very shaky when this happens and his eyes dont focus, kind of foggy like. I can move him, he isnt in any pain. I can palpate his abdomen, back hips legs and he doesnt react like he has any pain. |

I'm sorry you and your companion are going through this. Below are a couple of epilepsy websites that might help... http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-ang ... te_map.htm http://www.canine-epilepsy.com Others I'm sure will share more information that may help. If you have a camera that will take videos, you might tape the episode so your vet can see it for himself. You may have already done this but if not, you might also consider doing full blood work to see if something else is off. |
I hoped someone with first hand knowledge would share information. You might try a Yahoo group... below are a couple. It's important you find someone who knows the condition to see if this is what's happening to Beau. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/k9epileptics/ http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/k9epilepsy/ |
Thank you so much for your information. Its very odd what goes on with him and it has only happened twice. |
It does sound kind of like the postictus stage. If he's having seizures chances are he'll have one in front of you eventually. In the mean time if he has access to stairs or anything like that it might be a good idea to gate things off when you're not home. Idiopathic (primary) epilepsy is not terribly common in OES, but it definitely happens, and given his age that is a more likely diagnosis IF he is indeed having seizures. Fingers crossed that he is not. I second Jaci's suggestions for both the videotaping (if possible) as well as the full bloodwork up including thyroid if possible. Kristine |
Sorry, I just saw this! I hope your baby is doing well. My boy Paddington started having seizures when he was 13. His blood work was fine and the vet didn't seem to think they were seizures.... At first he would stare off into space, sometimes snap at the air. The first time I thought he had gotten a taste of something bad and tried to retrieve it from his mouth. He was backing away from me like he was afraid of me. He then one night had a full blown seizure... We were going to start him on meds but, the next day he had a really bad one and I could not get him to come out of it. I do not mean to scare you but, if I had spoken up and told the vet he needs meds this is not normal, It maybe would have saved him. I also noticed that keeping him cool was a lot easier on him. Each time Paddy had an incident it was after being in warmer temps.(even just out to use the bathroom...it was June in the south) Good Luck and please feel free to contact me if I can help! |
