Does Anyone do Tracking with their Sheepdog?

Frankies pt suggested a tracking class last night. She thought it would be good exercise for him and a really good chance to form a good bond with him.

Our trainer offers a class starting in a few months.

Tracking is very cool! If you have the opportunity, I would take it! It's safe and can provide some mental stimulation. We don't have classes like that here or I would jump on it! Have a good time!
Edgar does not have a nose that works properly. Oh it's big and cute and black, but good luck trying to get him to use it. Our dog Aggie on the other hand I'm sure would do really well in tracking. Sometimes I wish her nose would chill out! :)
I am going to look into tracking classes as soon as I have time.
Tiggy loves to walk along with her nose to the ground or the wind checking things out.
The other night she lost her ball in the dark and found it by quartering back and forth with her nose to the ground.
She might just be a natural.

Please keep us posted as to what you learn.
That sounds like fun. Are the classes in Manchester?
NO
There is a seminar at a vet in Ann Arbor on May 8th. Then The class is in June I think in Saline. We use a place called k9 homeschooling. They offer alot of different things.
I figure I will try the free seminar and see what we think then maybe sign up for the class.

Let us know how it goes. If I didn't have a wedding to go to on May 8, I'd go with you. It sounds like fun!
Tracking is a lot of fun especially if you do have an OES with a good snoofer.

An oes here in OZ not only show titles as well as agility/obedience etc but a tracking title.

Was in show coat when doing that, they had a suit made for the dog to trek through the bush without collecting all the bush on the way out.

If frankie loves snoofing then will be a load of fun for him.
We had our tracking seminar today. The weather was nasty. Cold raining windy. Other than that it was alot of fun. Frankie caught on after the second scent track was set down. The trainer called him a super star. LOL.

I thought it was fun. I'm going to practice with him and see how it goes.

A breed that uses sight is less likely to track........but they can be taught. It might be a good way to reduce the sudden need to "herd" if they are taught to use their nose........in addition to their eyes. Go for it!
