pottying in her crate

Okay so Khloe has been in our home for over a week now and is doing awesome with potty training. She has been doing really well at night too. I get up with her once in the night. BUT....the past 2 days. Sunday we went to church and lunch. We were gone for 3 hours and came home to a complete mess of a kennel and puppy. She was just laying in her own urine. It was disgusting and she got a bath. So, here we are on Monday and again had to leave her for 3 hours. SAME THING!!! It is so frustrating b/c I know that she can go longer than that. She has proven it. I am making sure to take her out before we put her in the crate. Any clue why she would be doing this during the day and is fine at night?

How much water did she have before you crated her? I would restrict her water before you crate her until her bladder can handle more.
She did have some water this morning after she ate her food. The past 2 days it just so happened that I had to crate her earlier in the morning. I hope this is not an every time occurance. It is a lot of work giving her a bath and blowdrying her out and all. I am exhausted!!! I just would hate to not give her water first thing in the morning b/c she is usually pretty thirsty. Guess she will have to do without on the rare occasion that I have to crate her in the morning.
Or you could give her the water, but not too much and make sure she does number one before you crate her. Your baby is still is young, but she'll get it! Asterisk had a few accidents in her crate the first few weeks we had her.
That happens. At night she's probably mostly napping but during the day she may be more awake and 3 hours is about the limit when they're in that 8-10 week range. I wouldn't do too much water limiting at this age. Puppies get thirsty from all their activity. If she can hold it for 3 hours, I'd plan to get home after about 2.5 hours! My first boy lovvvvvved to pee in his crate and then just lay in it. We did daily baths with him for a long time. I can commiserate with you because I know how much it sucks-- the peeing and the bathing.
It is just a lot of work! I would love to just come home and take her on a walk or play with her in the yard, but nope! It's up to my bathtub for a scrub down.
By the way...as we speak she is napping in her crate with the door open. She went in all on her own so I know she enjoys her bed!!! :)
sadie had this same problem when we first brought her home. we even did the water limiting thing ..
we actually ended up crating her for a while during the day even when we were home ... just so she could adjust to being in bed during the day. ... just for like 20 minutes to start and then eventually she was okay by herself ALL day long .

(now all she does all day is nap) ... * glares at the pooch currently napping on the couch .. * ...but she's a weirdo ...
Frankie would do the same thing. He ended up having a uti. It went on for quiet awhile. OUr trainer told us to give ice cubes and put water in a kong and freeze it. (plug the small whole) Then they can lick it and not have a full amount of water. I actually had a dog walker come in 2x aday for a long time to let Frankie out of his crate to potty.

Good luck and hopefully soon you can come home to some play time.

puppies are a mess. It's just a reality. We came home to a messed dog on more occasions then I want to recall.

Like a previous poster said...day is not night. Try limiting water before you go out. And the hard and cold truth is: If you want to go out for three hours and it's earlier then normal then you have to get up earlier so the puppy can play, eat, drink and pee and poop before you recrate him. IT"S A TERRIBLE SACRIFICE...but such is life with a puppy. It gets better and quick so don't despair.
