I am new to this site, but not new to sheepdogs, the best dogs in the world! London is our second sheepdog and he is 12 1/2, suffering from arthritis and therefore incontinence. Has anyone used "doggie diapers"? We have resorted to keeping him in the kitchen when we are at work so any accidents are easier cleaned up on the tile than on carpet. But, I just wondered if anyone has used a diaper and if so, what kind, since there seem to be so many different kinds? Cleaning up the urine is just so difficult. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and hope to chat with you soon. Dina |

I did use them briefly when Beau was about 8 weeks old. He had to be given a shot at the vet's office (long story) that made him pee A LOT for about a day & a half. However, I probably wouldn't do it again. It was just more trouble than it was worth. They were constantly shifting and diffficult to keep in a postion that was effective. But that was just my experience. Others may have tried them and liked them. |
Have you tried using puppy training pads? I have been using them with Gucci (had to stop because he decided that they were fun to shred while I was away!) but they do work great! They have a scent on them as well as a sticky tape back, to put on the floor. They really do absorb well and I would think it would be great not to have the urine on furry wigglebum. That might be more of a mess to clean, especially since your baby has arthritis, I would imagine that bathing would be difficult.
Anyway, just a suggestion, wish you well! Colleen Sir Gucci's Mom |
I think a great diaper for an incontinent dog while you find the right combo of meds would be the huggies pull ups for toilet training toddlers. You don't have to tape them on or anything, they stretch so you could just slide them on and off as needed. |
Yes, yes, we used diapers on Splash (her real name, not because she leaked) for almost 3 years. I found a doggie pant made from denim with a plastic lining that I could pin in a pad. The pads got thicker as she become more inconinent. For bowel movments, the pants came off, easy and good time to change the wet pad. She did fine. We kept her clean so no infection problem.
We tried human incontinence pants but they were too bulky and noisy. I've seen male doggie diapers that fit around the mid section. Looks pretty easy. sheepieboss |
