Anywho, he had this mixture for sweet tea. Since in your cold glass sugar granules don't dissolve, they just swish around, he showed how to make the sweetner. I remember that you boiled water, sugar, lemon and some mint. I don't know what the amounts were, but it created his syrup that you could keep in your fridge for up to a week. Does anyone have any idea what the recipe could be? |

I'm an Alton fan!! Ingredients 1-ounce loose black tea 1 quart hot water 1 quart room temperature water Simple Syrup: 5 cups sugar 3 cups cold water Directions Infuse loose tea into hot water for 4 to 5 minutes. Strain tea into room temperature water. Sweeten with simple syrup if desired. For simple syrup, in a small non-reactive pot combine 5 cups of sugar and 3 cups of cold water. Slowly bring to a boil and add 6 sliced lemons and a few sprigs of fresh mint. Remove from heat. Allow to cool 10 minutes and strain. |
Perfect! as I sit here sipping my sweet tea.... |
It does sound good, I'd need the mint though. For iced tea would you pour the hot stuff over ice? Or add it later? Today is a NOT an iced tea day, turned cold again, the day after the furnace was turned off and the cooler hooked up. No AC (my dream), it's evaporative cooling.........and not needed today, brrrrr. The idiots didn't turn off the thermstat so at 01:34 a.m. the furnace kicked on, of course it is all sealed up so was very noisy, I was not happy to be doing a paid workman's job. If I had that mint......and a lemon.........I'd try that tea, sounds wonderful. |
After you make the syrup sweetner you put it in a canning jar and leave it in your fridge. When you make your iced tea you can add as much or as little sweetner as you like. I'm so excited that you found that recipe!!! Nothing like a cold glass of iced tea on the weekend! |
