I hope this part doesn't last long. It must be awful. The important part is to do as much PT as you can, as bad as that feels you'll be glad later. Shellie |
Hope your feeling better soon. I remember when my dad used to have knee surgeries and how painful those were for him. Hope the pain stage doesn't last long. Lisa and Frankie |
Hope you feel better soon. Knee replacement is in the cards for me too down the road. Hoping later rather than sooner. Does not sound like fun! |
Have a speedy recovery. |
Are you taller now? A friend of mine had both hips replaced within 6 weeks. He is definitely taller now! I had noticed he seemed shorter before the surgery, so maybe it is just that he can stand up straighter. |
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Glad you have the hairy nurses to look after you. |
Hope you have a good recovery. Remember to keep up with the PT. That's very important to get the most out of your surgery! My Dad had both a hip & knee replacement & followed the PT to a "T". he had great results. My mom had both knees replaced at separate times & refused to follow the PT orders because it "hurt too much". She never got the results she could have had & now she walks around like she needs them replaced again In the future for me too, probably sooner than later but I am holding off as long as I can. You know, I have these dogs to train & show & I surely can't take 6 months off from that |
Hope for a speedy recovery and the pain meds to do their job. |
Cindy~~~ So happy the surgery went well and it is over with!!! Now the healing can begin. Take your meds, take it easy, do your PT and love on your pups. Keep us posted on your progress,,,Here's to a quick recovery!!!! |
Yeah, don't let any pain get ahead of the pain meds, be sure to take as much as you can to kill the pain. More and more research is showing that pain becomes habitual, so don't give it a chance to get used to your surroundings! |
Speedy recovery wishes for you! My good friend had a total knee done in January - he said at 6 weeks he was 100%. So just think, what were you doing 6 weeks ago? That wasn't that long - now imagine the same amount of time and that knee is PERFECTO! |
Thanks for all the advice and good thoughts. It was two weeks yesterday so I am hoping 3 weeks is the charm BUT Molly jumped on my knee this morning. OMG I saw stars. planets and I believe the milky way!!!! I want to go to the philly picnic next month so that is a goal. I need to use my pain meds more frequent I think I seem to let myself get in too much pain right before bed. Enjoy the nice weather everyone cindy |
Hurry and get healed up soon, Cindy! I seem to remember some mention of a trip up my way after your surgeries! |
Woohoo! Congrats on getting it done. After 20 years of taking care of postop TKA's, I can tell right from the start those who will succeed, and those who will fail. Mental attitude is so important - and you are stubborn enough to ensure you will succeed! Getting the right mix of resting and activity is so important. Take your meds before doing PT and your exercises so you can get the maximum benefit. Use your ice and elevate - getting swelling and the associated pain and loss of movement is your number one enemy. That can slow your progress unbelievably. As you've probably been told, it is so important to get good ROM right away. Really pushing that will pay off down the road. Sadly, this is when it hurts the most, and makes it hard.. but keep at it! I remember the ones who came in for the 1st knee - and afterwards they SWEAR they never will be back for the 2nd one. Then they appear 6-8 weeks later, all smiles and doing it again The #1 comment is always......why did I wait this long? I should have done this years ago.... |
Dh really needs both knee's done. I dread it. He's been a really good nurse to me lately and I'm afraid I will not be as "patient" with him. Hope the healing goes fast and keep ahead with the pain meds. |
I seem so tired Humans really decondition fast!!!! I do my PT and use my meds!!! I have not been using as much pain meds but take before PT and an hour before bedtime as I seemed to have the most pain then. I just want to be walking w/o pain My question to me now is WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???? The home health group will cut me free wed I love them and do not want to go out on my own I will have to have blood work as I am on blood thinners to reduce the chance of clots. and of course PT which I am sure they will try and kill me Thanks for all the input I am at a pity party today................... |
Can you beg your doc for more PT days? Sorry your having a down day. |
What refreshments do you have (or would you like) for your pity party? I'm sure I could spend some time with you there, but we'll need drinks. |
Poor Cindy!! Just suck it up and get better. You need to be able to make a trip to Philly the first weekend in June to root on Team Steve in his first show!!! |
Whine and cheese Having a better day I just want to walk again and not have pain It all takes time......I want to go to the philly OES picnic next month and I have to cheer on Team Steve!!!!! Mandy remind me when it is closer. I am walking with a cane not the walker. So baby steps baby steps. A friend brought me cupcakes today!!!! Not good when I want to lose weight for my daughters upcomming wedding but a great spirit lifter!!!!! yum |
Sounds like you're making great progress! Hang in there. |
Hope you're feeling better today! Sorry I was away and did not see this until this morning. |
Thinking of you, Cindy and so glad to hear you were able to swap out that walker for a cane. |
