Gates, gates, and more gates!!!! LOL |
This isn't in my house(I wish) but if you have mutiple dogs a dog room would be nice. A large walk-in shower , lots of space for a grooming table and supplies, cupboards for all those towels, etc. A door that goes directly outside with a covered porch for rainy days. If you breed a small puppy room attached to the grooming room........this exist only in my fantasy life The one thing that I do have is an electric grooming table because I have large dogs and can't lift them. Maybe someday I'll have the rest |
FENCED in YARD!!!!!i cant say it enough. If we didnt a fence in yard i dont know how id deal w/ all the energy, between Jagger and Mickey playing 22/6 and Eddie and his leave me alone attitude it would drive me nuts NOT to be able to let my boys run free in the back yard, especially in winter when its hard to go for any kind of walk. |
I agree with Tanya on the fenced in yard. My dogs wouldn't get 90% of their exercise if it wasn't for the fenced in yard. They run like lunatics at what seems like 100 mph chasing each other. Obviously not something they can do on a leash with you in tow... lol
The other most wonderful thing we have is the dog door. When we go out the dogs can go out or stay inside... their choice. (of course this would really be no good without a fenced in yard) When we lived in a milder climate it was ok to leave the dogs in the yard. But it gets like 115-120 degrees in the summer. They definitely could not be left out in that. Plus we never have to worry about rushing home to let the dogs out. Which I remember doing on many occassions. Elissa |
Wow, I don't think it has ever been even close to that hot here. LOL
Here, we gets excited and say it's mild once it gets above zero. LOL A heat wave is anything over 80. LOL |
Do you ever have a problem with creatures getting in your house through the door? We back up to woods with lots of small animals and I would be worried about that. We also have bratty kids next door that like to tease the dogs so we are always out with them. |
No problems with animal getting in. The bottom of the dog door is about 4 inches of the ground and they would need to apply significant pressure on the magnet on the door to open it. The Dogs were scared of it at first. It took them a while to learn to use it.
Willowsprite. It's been in the high 70's here all week. 90's last weekend. |
Elissa [I'm jealous]!!!!!! hehe!!you know im joshing!!90 last week end,my gawd i need to move back to home in florida, here the 1st day of spring the high is 36degrees!!WOW!!!!Short sleeves today!!!Im so sick of wonter I could just blow a gasket!!!I miss the 80dgrees at X-mas .I miss 80degrees at Easter also.Id love to be at my old hang out on a beach w/ my boys right now. Sorry Karen didnt mean to go off your subject. |
WELCOME SPRING! We currently have snow showers mixed with rain. |
I have a 3 car garage in it I don't have, but would like a raised tub with hot and cold running water with a cabinet right over it for towels and shampoo etc. I do have a grooming table and would love to have a commercial dryer. A fenced yard would be the bomb you actually can't live without it but if you have to, like me, you can put an underground radio fence with a shock collar (it sounds worse than it is), we live on a lake and can't have a fence because of deed restrictions. do not put wood flooring in your kitchen unless it is sanded and finished in place, you can't have water leaking through those cracks. And last but almost as important as the fence are gates or doors to keep them in the kitchen or where ever while you are gone, in my case they need to be at least 5 feet high Roger can simply (kind of) jump over the 4 foot ones. It would also be nice to have a covered porch with a hose and grated drain for feet washing during the rain. Did I mention I need someone as a live-in to do all the work also. |
Rogers Dad-
For a fenced in exercise area (for one adult sheepdog), what would be the minimum size requirement ? Thanks |
I love our dog door too! I couldn't live without it. Jas figured it out by the end of day one with us. It leads them right into the fenced yard.
I guess my wish would be to finish our basement bathroom which will consist of a small 1/2 bath and right next to it will be our huge walk-in shower room. It will be the size of a regular bathroom with multiple showerheads and a tiled table for dog washing with a long hand held showerhead. We are in the planning, picking tile phase and we hope to have it completed by the end of summer. My nephew will be coming over to teach me how to tile! wish me luck |
No dog door for us, I'd be too afraid of someone stealing them.... |
humm... let's see....
A confy love seat that Sofa calls her own. Chewable carpet available 24/7. A great digging area where Mom and Dad once tought it could be a backyard with grass and flowers. And oour sheepies favorite: Living inside a gated park where they can romp and run at their will as soon as we open the front door. |
I think Abby loves the french doors the most. She can see everything going on. We also have a doggie door and the dogs love it. Of course it's the extra large size to accomodate Abby, but Josie (border collie/aust. shep) uses it to haul out anything that can fit. I stand amazed at what she can fit through it...laundry, pillows, blankets, comforters, slippers, shoe boxes, toys.... We've never had wild animals come inside willingly. Our cat greets us with gifts sometimes... live rabbits, mice, gophers, birds, tarantulas.... |
Fencing, the ideal would be to fence as much of the yard as possible, In Rogers case about 60 + feet by 6 or 8 feet is the minimum to get to a full run and turn around to run back. The birds that live around us play a game with him. They sit on the light pole on one end of the yard when he barks at them they fly to the other side of the yard and sit on a roof top. They squalk (if that's a word) so he knows it is time to go. Underground radio fencing comes with a little quirk. The dog can and will crash it and take the momentary static shock so you have to be very watchful. |
I would love a door from the garage into the back yard/dog run. Then a doggy door in that door, so I can have peace of mind the dog could go into the back yard whenever she wanted, but if it was too cold and I wasn't home she could come inside the garage. Right now I am home all day, every day, but eventually I'd like to go back to work part time. If someone wanted to break in, first they'd have to get into the dog run (6ft fence), and crawl through a doggy door, then break down a steel door only to find an instant alarm.
I also give a thumbs up for a tall baby gate, Remy can jump over the short ones, and we like to step over if we have too. So we found one that she stays put and it's easy for us to get through...(wood). My wish list, would be tiled floors and laminate...hard wood scratches easy. I hate muddy season, or any day actually can make a mess of the carpets...it just always looks dirty. We also have a door to back through our kitchen, but I would love to have a washroom for my dog/cleaning things...and a big bathtub to rinse her off somedays. Or hot and cold water taps outside...we only have cold. |
