Just a video to share of Jasper with Azula preening him or rather, foraging for insects more likely. This is one golden reason why I Love this breed. They are such gentle giants. Of course, I'm still nervous because he has absolutely no awareness of how big his body really is, but nevertheless a wonderful effort at peace with a creature that would most likely be dinner. Hope everyone is doing well! And that it's OK to post a vid instead of a pic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYhwyLW_1KE |

Great to see you around! Cute duckling. Jasper looks great! |
Welcome back, it is wondeful to hear from you again. Great video!! and Jasper looks FANTASTIC. |
Jasper looks so great. Good to see u back. |
Wow, Tiggy chases any birds who dare to go in our yard. I wonder if she'd let a pet do that? Such an amazingly cute video. |
Very Cute!! Loved the ducky trying to walk on the table. Soo adorable how they are together! |
Good memory! Thought no one would know us as we all look the same don't we? fluffy & gray/white Actually.......Jasper does have a good instinct to chase or herd...On the ground he desperately wants to follow the duckling (chase) and it scares the bejeebers out of her! I have no idea why she's so dominant when they are on the coffee table - guess it's just the lack of movement. Gotta love the 9 dollar St. Vincent's coffee table that has seen it all ..even chomp marks from when he was a pup. The duckling is equally as clutsy on firm ground too. Posterior positioned feet for swimming. So now a waddler and a bear gaited sheepdog. They would look so cute walking together from behind. |
Jasper has such beautiful, expressive eyes! I wonder what would have happened if that duckling had decided to preen a bit more towards the left and gotten Jasper on the rump. |
That is just adorable. Jasper is such a good boy! (Oscar would be saying......here ducky, ducky, ducky.....) Laurie and Oscar |
It's WONDERFUL to see Jasper looking so healthy and happy! Very cute with the duck - is this a pet duck or was she rescued...or? |
It's a pet duck. We are raising a few chickens and 1 duck for pets/eggs. Trying to do more farming vs. buying from grocer where it's shipped from who knows where using tons of oil. Well that's Oregon's influence on me now - buy local, eat local, grow your own. But for me, not to the point of duck nuggets - we'll only be using the eggs. =) The Cayuga is a threatened domestic species. There is a bit of a movement going on with threatened or endangered domestic farm animals - conservation I guess. Certain organic farms here or conservancies breed them and encourage others to get them -- granted you have the ideal home/farm for them. So all the better to have her here, although I think the goal would be to breed. Not ready for that yet! Would be cute though. http://www.avianweb.com/cayugaducks.html |
So THAT'S what that duck is called! I always wondered. When I lived in Michigan the Michigan State fair would always have those ducks for sale. I always thought they were so beautiful! |
That is adorable Welcome back - both of you! It looks like Jasper was maybe thinking about licking the duckling, but ducky was having no part of that business! Chewie is my groomer of others - he would be in quite a dilemna with your duck |
How nice the duckling was already preparing Jasper's feathers by attempting to water proof them. The oil gland at the rear of the duck provides the water proofing and the ducks smear this all over their body and may preen one another. Azula was probably wondering, "Mom, you still have your fluff, where are your feathers?" Or as you said, searching for bugs. |
grat to see you post been missing jasper he looks so great |
Jasper is looking very good. He is so white. Goodness, I wish Edgar was that white. I take him to Wash Your Dog Spot and then he is looking all dirty by the end of the week. Grrr. The video was very cute. |
