As the butter had the effect of the 'slippery poopies' 2 hours after his sneakie-sheepie mission, how long will it take for the paper to pass? I just want to be on the lookout and know when I should maybe call the vet if it doesn't pass. Stupid human for leaving the butter on the counter with a Sheepadoodle unsupervised. |

Bellle used to snarf butter sticks all the time. I only rarely saw the wrapper but I'm pretty sure she doesn't still have 4-5 of them ( ) inside of her. You're always smart to be careful but I'd be shocked if it could create any kind of blockage. And as for the butter itself, as you say it slides right through Kristine |
Oh I think the paper is not a big problem...the butter migth cause some loose poop and a bit of an upset as it is really is mostly fat I believ and that can cause some tummy upset. Nothing that is an emergency. I don't believe anyway. The only emergency would be if there is much loose poop and omitting to the extent is leads to dehydration...But all in all I think you are okay... Hope you have a decent night! |
Once that paper hits the VERY acidic tummy acids, any wax is removed and the paper destroyed. I suspect you won't recognize it on it's way out......quickly. Silver wrapped paper might show up as blackened bits, metal objects seem to survive the acid bath a whole lot better. Hence why have we had glitter decorated poop here? I don't believe it was applied post deposit. |
Thanks for your advice! Now He protested pooping last night when we got home, but he was anxious this morning to get outside to do his business. He was solid this morning, so the 'slipperies' seem to be over. SheepieBoss wrote: Once that paper hits the VERY acidic tummy acids, any wax is removed and the paper destroyed. send several lbs. of butter and we won't post pictures of you and hubby in rice farmer outfits. |
If I had a nickle for every stick of butter my dogs have eaten, I could be paying someone to finish out my basement instead of doing it myself! I'm glad this issue has passed uneventfully for you! Shellie |
Simon my basset recently had his own butter party. His was on purpose though. A local publishing company that makes books for kids, is making a kids "Knock knock" joke book. The author needed a basset hound for the joke - knock, knock; who's there?; butter; butter who?; butter see what your dog is doing! They had a suggested drawing of a basset with it's paws on the table, taking a bite out of a stick of butter. They said - artists have ideas, but they aren't always possible. After looking at it - I said Simon could do that. He is very well obedience trained, a therapy dog and will stay in practically any pose I put him in. They got a wooden stool, and I put Simon's front paws on it. Reinforced the "good boy" with a few treats. Then they put down a stick of butter on a small green plate. Simon delicately nibbled it - like it was a cob of corn. They were just laughing as they took pictures - they were amazed he didn't just grab it in one gulp. They flipped it to a fresh side and kept taking pictures. He was a huge success! I can't wait to see the book - it's due out around Christmas time. |
Cute!! Ask if you can have a proof of the picture and post it here. |
So,has the butter and paper passed???? Hope all is well! |
It sounds like all is well now, so I'm glad of that. I just wanted to say I'm surprised it went through at all. We had a butter snarfler, and he frequently snagged chunks (and occasionally a full pound). We were always treated to the wonderful aroma of hot buttered puke about an hour later. Now THAT'S charming. |
