For those of you who remember my adventures with Maggie and Chumley, I am pleased to report that Henry quickly falls asleep in the car and Maggie only very rarely barks at trucks and people lurking (suspiciously!) outside the car. So I am expecting a fairly quiet ride. I would love to know who among forum members is along or near my route that I could potentially meet up with on the way. I'm not looking for a place to stay -- I love hotels -- but it would be fun to meet at a dogpark, for example. Even if you don't want to or can't meet up with me, I would also welcome suggestions for places to stop, especially dogparks, along the way. This would probably be in June although this is still tentative. Nothing is certain. . . |

Valerie~~~ Awwwww, ,,reconsider and visit the GREAT MIDWEST!!!!! Come to St.Louis~~~one of the most dog friendly citiies around...I would love to meet one of the very few people who held my baby, Heart and loved her when she was just an infant!!! REMEMBER:::::"""" Just so you know...Heart is the one sitting by you with the 'heart' shape on her hip!!! I am sure you picked her up and loved on her!!!!!! It would be fun for you too!!! To see her 3 years later!!! And what fun Maggie and Henry would have with my crew!!! We can probably plan a get together with some of the OES Club members and have a little party!!! NOW>>>>> doesn't that sound like fun????? |
Actually, yeah, it does! Which reminds me that I should add I expect to return to Boulder through the US. I will update the map. St. Louis is definitely on the route and I would love to see all the paloozers. . . I definitely cuddled with your precious Heart. All the pups were so incredibly cute and sweet. |
Great!!! Just let me know when you decide if it is 'doable' for you..and I'll start planning on this end!!!!!! |
Wonderful! Thank you! That would be so much fun. |
Well of COURSE you need to do a 'road trip' up the road ANYTIME as we are back in the house...... holes in the ceiling and walls and all..... and Caly and Check would love to play with your two!!! And hopefully you will have a new litter to cuddle with and help socialize too this summer! |
You're coming back east!!!! |
Naaah put the fuzz kids and yourself on a plane and visit us in Upside down land. |
Hey Valerie, you do realize that that little pup you have in your lap is the baby that lives across the street from you now don't you? That's Buttons! |
Am I reading this wrong-- or will you be coming through COLUMBUS OH? If so -- we are meeting!!!!! We would love to have you visit us here!!!!! |
Why does no one want to travel to Houston? |
I don't need to wait for the roadtrip to come see you Ali! Let's plan something. . . I didn't know that was Buttons. Like the rest of her family, she has grown up to be a wonderful beautiful sheepdog . . . Yes, Lori, I would plan to come through on the return route. I would love to meet you, John and Max! Lisa -- it would be my favorite trip in life to come visit your Sheepdog wonderland. How fun that would be! Ron -- looks like I'd be passing by your neck of the woods. We have to see you! Sorry Joahaeyo, too hot. |
That sounds like a lot of fun. Bless her heart, Chum was a sweetie - but a quieter cross country trip will be nice. You aren't quite to us in MN - on your map I am right above the "o" in "Rochester"... About 200 miles away. Western Iowa is flat farmland, but getting rolling and pretty east of Des Moines by Cedar Rapids. When going to NY a few yrs ago we drove - through MI , into Ca and back out through Buffalo. Then out to the Cape and P-town, and back the southern route, similar to yours for the eastern part. |
Interesting. . . I guess if I went along the lake instead of through Canada, we'd pass by you. Hmmm. . . Is the Canada part of the drive I've mapped out pretty? |

Hope you bump up the route. Another option (I would pick for scenery) - is to come up through MN, continue through WI into the UP and then keep going east. THAT is beautiful! The part we took - from Mi to Buffalo through Canada was a lot of flat farmland. It was early May, so just greening. We did stop at Niagara Falls - very beautiful. Not just the falls, but the grounds are gorgeous and many parks. We had picnic lunch there. Not sure of dog access - but I'm sure they have the info online. You go right past Amber's place too that way. We were on a deadline, or we would have stopped! |

Oh wow, I didn't even consider that! That sounds really nice! So I am going to consider a possible alternate route that includes Minneapolis and Rochester. |
The mapped alternate didn't show MN The way we went took 35 north (you could do that - straight north out of Des Moines), then 94/90 east through MPLS/ST Paul into WI - continue east through Eau Claire and Wausau and into the UP. That's the way we went, and it was really nice. We went that way to the OES National in MI. We stayed overnight along the lake in Manistique - loved it! And walked the dogs along the lake on the boardwalk |
Wow, sounds like such a fun trip! If you're going to go to St. Louis, you might as well come to Virginia. Just get on 64 and keep going! That drive is really pretty--through horse country of Kentucky. |
Living on a peninsula, Michigan's never on the way for anyone. |
got sheep wrote: The mapped alternate didn't show MN That's a mistake! I fixed it. The same link for Roadtrip v2 should now work. Wow those pictures are pretty! I will have to find out about that cabin. . . |

I've went through Virginia then Tennessee on the 2006 trip west and then returning east. . . |
so...just swing down 95 from Philly and then head west on 64 here in VA. There. done. |

Seriously, if the trip happens, we have to meet. No -if's, an's or but's about it. |
Well now if you are coming through Wisconsin.... |
Maryland is a nice place to visit |
Driftwood Motel http://www.wmallory.com/dsindex.html Simon on my bed :0) The wood wall on the right was the bathroom. Sorry it's so dark - kind of a crappy picture. |
If you wait until September you could meet up with lots of OES at the National Specialty... |
Maggie McGee IV wrote: If you wait until September you could meet up with lots of OES at the National Specialty... Unfortunately, I will be back at work in September. Actually, I suppose that is fortunate since it is lucky to have a job these days. I will be passing through Indiana. . . |
Poor Val... You may have to travel to each state to make everyone happy. |
I can't believe you are skipping your old friends in Pennsylvania!! |
When will you be in Ohio?? I need to go home to visit sometime!!! Lori's farm is not too far from my family! ( didn't mean to invite myself) |
nowhere near here in NNY.... though I do have to go home this summer to Ohio to see family before we head out to Germany. And we are already taking a trip to Oh in June for a wedding.... and it looks like you will be going right by our hometown..... |

from the border of detroit or port huron, michigan thru london to toronto is flat, ugly and nothing to see . bleeeeeh. upwards from NY to toronto, then kingston - all the way to Maine - absolutely gorgeous!! especially the 1000 islands region!! if you're going to maine, you should visit new brunswick, canada - especially the village of St andrews, which is short drive past the maine border. gorgeous! |

Val on the route you've planned you must spend a day or in in Old Quebec City, and Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. We visited these last fall, absolutely beautiful. |

I LOVE Bar Harbor. I used to go every summer with my Dad and family when I was younger. I've never been to Quebec and if I can fit it in, I would love to get there. I'm trying to time this to occur after my semester ends and before my college reunion at the end of May (in Massachusetts). |
Well shoot! You're driving through downstate Illinois rather than North. Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you and Mags again and of course adorable Henry. I bet they'd have a blast with the Foz man. |
Woo Hoo! I'll actually be home in the Ottawa area during that time frame and we would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet up! Will check in for updates. Michele |
Carl's wife wrote: Woo Hoo! I'll actually be home in the Ottawa area during that time frame and we would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet up! Will check in for updates. Michele Wonderful! I'll keep you posted. For Ohio, that would be the return leg so sometime in early August. . . |
LOL...just to let you know Stacy and I did NOT coordinate our LOVE LOVE LOVE.....I didn't see her post before I put mine below it.... |
So when are you starting?? and going through MN? I need to plan! It sounds like you are going to have another wonderful trip. We vacationed in Acadia/ Bar Harbor once and loved it! and all that Canadian stuff sounds wonderful. |
If you end up in the Niagara area of Ontario let me know. I would love to meet up or have you stop by here for a visit! |
better clear calender till 2011 for this trip. |
Oh Valerie, I can't wait to see you and Maggie again. Plus I have been anxious to get my hands on Henry ever since you brought him home. Val and I will take you and the dogs out for some good Italian food. |

I think I could be in Minneapolis by the second day and I will stop there to visit a friend. Are you near the route? Blueshire wrote: If you end up in the Niagara area of Ontario let me know. If it's the previous route you posted, it will be close. (the last link was just Niagara Falls location) I am about 45 minutes west off Hwy 35 as you are going north to Mpls. The intersection is at Hwy 14 in Owatonna. I will see if there is something fun close to there for the dogs. |
Google maps is goofy. It should have shown the whole route. But yes, looks like I will be going right past you on the way to Minneapolis. I'd love to find a place to meet where the dogs could play. Does it make a difference to you whether it is weekday or weekend / day or evening? Since this is early in the trip, I should be able to plan accordingly. |

Since this is early in the trip, I should be able to plan accordingly. In May, right? It would make a difference, just because of my work schedule. What dates are you thinking? And good reminder to me - my May requests are due for work by next Monday! My only dates in May are the 14th is LeAnne's college graduation, and the 15-16th we are at an agility trial. And the trial would be OK if you came that weekend, as it is sort of on the way to MPLS too. |
