When to Bath

Hi there,

My OES is 12 weeks old and she like to lick herself.. How often and when I should bath her?

Her mouth turned pretty brown and how can I make it look white again?

Thanks for all your help..

Regards,
Johnson

I find the more frequent the baths, the less "extra" stuff you have to do to keep them white. There are whitening shampoos you can use, using filtered water, using stainless steel bowls, wiping their mouths every time they drink water, and using cornstarch on the beards. I bathe mine whenever they need it, which for us is always every 7-14 days.

An endless cycle ...today being bath day for 1 of them and the second dog will get one on thursday. Their last bath was this past Friday, but we're going on a trip so another one is planned. ;) I just make sure to rinse super thoroughly, and we've never had issues with dryness.

Some people only bathe their dogs 1-2 times a year. So the answer will be whatever you're comfortable with AND whenever you can get to it. :)
I agree with Jo!! I used to bath Heart, the puppy whenever she looked dirty, which was often. since she liked to dig in the dirt with her face....

~~I would just 'throw' her in the kitchen sink, wet, lather, rinse and a little conditioner, blow dry and brush!!

AHHHHhhh!!! those were the days, when she fit in the sink.... 8O 8O 8O

yes..she DOES have a extremely 'well-endowed' back end~~~~~~
:clappurple: :clappurple: yorkies fit in sinks!
So does my Mom's mini poodle.
First time I bathed her I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. 10mins in the sink, 20mins with the dryer......1/2 hour all done. 8O :)
It was then that I realised why so many people have small fluffy dogs.
HI,

Is cornstarch same as corn flour?

I can only find corn flour at supermarket..

Thanks

Johnson
Corn starch is white in color & very, very finely ground......even moreso than baby powder.

You can try asking someone, and in the baby section... they now sell baby powder that is cornstarch. I've used it on our dogs legs, and it works great.
Does the corn starch simply mask the dirt?

Bumble has a very mucky mouth and doesn't really like baths so are there any tips to keeping her muzzle white?

Also I heard that giving a dog too many baths is bad for the oils in their coat, does any one know how many is too many? I'm asking because she (and I) got caught by a massive wave today when it splashed right up onto the promenade and I'm worried the sea salt wont do her coat any good. I've already had to wash her paws today when she managed to get a thorn stuck in one (it was massive, almost a centimetre into her poor puppy paw) :(

But she seems happy enough now, cuddling in bed with me to cheer her up! :D

Thanks!
Bath as needed, especially using the newer natural or bontanical types of dog shampoo. They don't contain soap or harsh stripping agents. At my house it's usually 7-14 days too. If you have concerns about dry coats, adding extra omega 3-6-9(essentail fatty acids)pills(or really jelcaps)to your dogs food really help. I always get comments on how good my crew's coats look and its the daily 3-6-9's

LOL They're supposed to. Their back end should be wider than the front... too often we don't see that anymore.
Thanks Furry I'll try that!

Now I just have to get her to eat the pills! It's not that she's a fussy eater, it's just she seems a very thoughtful eater... chewing everything thoroughly. I bet they'll burst.

I use a very gentle puppy shampoo at the minute, which is just as well because I went for a walk with two other dogs in a forest today and she came home absolutely filthy, I'm not sure I've ever seen a dirtier dog.
I give my dogs gelcap omega 3's.
They love to chew them up but that never causes a problem just some brief fishy breath.
I ask them if they want a lolly they like them so much.
My breeder taught me to wrap the pills with cream cheese and she love it.

ALso how do you apply corn starch on their beard?
I also bought a bottle of eye tear mark removal,
does it really work? i can't see much difference after apply today.

Thanks
There ARE products that work well on tear stains, but I'm going to guess the one you have doesn't. The one product that I know DOES work is something that swallow not apply to their face is angel eyes or the main ingredient in it "tylan." Both of which can be found on amazon, BUT we really don't hear about OES' ever needing it. I think I've only seen the topic come up a few times the many years I've been on here. My very successful experience with angel eyes were when i owned a maltese and 100s of other dog owners (on dog forum) were recommending it. BTW, all tear stain products are things you have to apply daily (sometimes more than once) and for long term to really see a REAL difference.

Most people make the cornstarch into a paste and put it on to let dry a bit and then wash off. I notice it getting significantly whiter just by letting them drink lots of water (so there beard is drowning in water) and then just applying cornstarch in gobs onto a rag and then scrubbing off.

The older my dogs got, the less I really had to worry about stains. Not sure why, but was the case for both my OES'.

Charlie wouldnt fit in the sink either !!!! lol
I also want to ask why my OES "Biscuit' lick her private place a lot?

I kind of stopping her whenever I saw her doing this.

Is it normal.. She also bite her own hair on her back legs a lot.

I did rinse again and again after shampoo..

One more thing: How can you post the pic on the left column?

Thanks
I give my dogs omega gelcaps and they chew them up on purpose they LOVE fish oil. They only have fish breath really briefly too. Not sure how they manage that feat.
