Sybil had been working well lately, so I rashly sent in her first rally advanced entry. As soon as I did, of course, her brain flew out the window, never to be seen again. I only entered her one day as the trial was close and I knew from previous scheduling I'd be able to do it basically on my (extended) lunch hour. I wanted to see where we're at. We got through it OK, but mostly thanks to a very kind judge and no offset figure eight, which would have been disasterous on this day. Oh, she DID everything. And I had to struggle to keep her from taking the jump three times That was the only time she came alive. The rest of the time she lollygagged throughout like she was sedated. Happy, but in no damn hurry, thank you very much. Occasionally taking the time to check out a sign, just to see if I had interpreted it correctly I guess. I forget the proper name as I don't do much rally, god give me regular competitive obedience any day where the judge has to do your thinking for you , but the about turn where handler goes one way and the dog goes the other was the first sign after the jump, she started to make the turn, saw the sign and then had to give it the once over with her nose. It's a miracle she didn't take out any signs. Then we had to head back towards the jump, but make a left turn right in front of it and only by taking the hit (no pun intended) for the bumping points was I able to stop her from taking it again After that she perked up a little and her pivots are really nice, but really, it was not pretty and still earned her a second place with a stinking 88 which was better than she deserved. The advantages of being in the A classes. Back to work before we enter her again. She herself was very happy with her efforts and worked the crowd afterwards to get her just admiration for being cute and fuzzy, if not talented or well trained Though she did earn us $15 for the second prize so she bought me lunch. Then she tried to steal it back, but I guess you could make the case that she had earned it. Sort of So looking forward to getting Mace ready so I can trial with a less opinionated and moody bitch! There should only be one of those in the ring at any time!!! Kristine |

What the hell are you apologizing for? I would love to have Harry that attentive. Either Sybil and Harry can read and haven't told us, because he also looks at the signs, or they are determined to look at anything but us. One of our most embarrassing moments one the rally course was when the judge yelled out to the stewards as we were leaving the ring "Please reset the course!" because Harry knocked out three stations. Sad as it is to say, with all the posts here lately about our breeds antics in the performance arena, I am beginning to think that this breed excels in performing as clowns. It may be up to Chewie to bring us respect. He seems to be the only one with dignity in the ring which makes me wonder if there might be some other DNA species in his blood. Perhaps sock? |
Oh Kristine... You made me giggle. |
What some people won't give up lunch for! Amazing how we keep thinking "maybe this time...." isn't it? Actually, if I could get mine to go thru an advanced course with a passing score at all I'd be thrilled to pieces! I'd even let Mariah HAVE my lunch for that ! (José wouldn't want it. He turns down people food ) Congrats to Sybil for a nice placement! |

The reset the course request sounds remarkably like Mad in agility. I doubt I'll ever have an OES that fast again. She used to trounce the border collies for speed. Too bad she couldn't keep the bars up doing it. I used to walk around the ring before our jumpers runs and personally apologize to all of the barsetters for what we were about to perpetrate Syb really did behave like she was in outer space. Normally I get good heeling between the exercises and then she fights me at the stationary stations. The ones that require multiple changes of position are especially aggravating to her: "We already sat TWICE. Again with the sitting?" Or "sit, down, stand, sit! Make up your mind already lady!!!" This time she MEANDERED sedately between the exercises, blowing kisses to her "fans" (where's the "wanted to crawl down a hole" emoticon when you need it? ) then would catch up, perform the station and then happily meander on. This after a woman had complimented me on our warm-up, noting that she'd never seen an OES that attentive before. I knew better and warned her that outside of the ring is a different story At least she didn't kiss the judge or try to crawl onto the scribe's lap. For every Sybil and Harry (etc) there is a Chewie and Belle (etc) that live their lives to make the breed look good. Or the rest of look bad. Hard to say Funny dog. Lucky she's cute (did I say that already?) Kristine |
ahhhh - I was this close to sending in Marley's first advanced entry. Now I'll need therapy before I do!! Did I mention that last night in her CGC, we had to walk, left turn right turn about face etc to show loose leash control, in the agility class room, with jumps set up? Yeah, she may be the only dog to receive a CGC with a jump in her loose leash exercise |
Seeing Kerry missed it, I'll get the "poor Sybil" in 1st.... Chewie sends congrats to his little sis....incognito.... |
Incognito is good. Kristine |
Sounds like you both did very good!!!! Congratulations on a second place and a Q...!!!!!! |
