What next?

I took Morgan and Marley in for their heart-worm tests tonight. Since ticks are so prevalent around here - and one out of four dogs seem to have Lyme disease, the vet does the snap test (tests for heart-worm and Lyme and two other tick borne diseases).
Marley is fine - she is always fine. Morgan has previously tested positive for Lyme, so I expected that would be a possibility, but no. he has anaplasmosis, another tick borne disease. One of our other dogs has it's I know its in the area, but honestly why Morgan? Now he has to start doxy tomorrow - which is rough on their stomachs, I just hope we don't end up with any gastro issues.

He is down below a 100 pounds as well- that's over 20 pounds since December, we have to reduce his thyroid meds to see if that's what's making him so hyper lately (okay hyper for a former slug ;) )

poor Morgan. I hope his GI takes the doxy OK.
I sympathize - I never take ABX unless I'm practically dying because they rip my guts apart.

Years ago I took EES - erythromycin - and I shed out whole layers of tissue from my GI track and didn't have a normal BM for over 6 months. NEVER again!
I never have made it through a whole Zythromax Zpack - I tried it only twice......very bad.... :(
So sorry to hear the news  Would giving him a pepcid AC before giving the doxy help coat his tummy and avoid some upset? I do that, wait about half and hour and then give the med with food. Seemed to help when my male was taking some strong meds for his MRSA infection.
Not fun :(
Our 9yr old Golden had a tick borne illness when we rescued him 8yrs ago.He was on doxy for 4months. I would wait 30min-1hr then give him a scoop of good grade plain yogurt. Never had any gut issues the whole time he was on it. FYI it also works well for people. The good bacteria recolonizes the gut.I'm a nurse that takes care of premies we've been using the powdered form of probiotics(ABC dophilus)with amazing results. The little guys have notoriously bad guts.
My crew gets a scoop of yogurt every morning. I eat the Greek yogurt(Fage) every morning. Started out I just wanted to get rid of the extra liquid,so I gave it to the OES (always the food hound) on a plate. Now I have 3 eager faces sitting prettily in front of me till I share
So sorry. Poor Morgan and poor you. Sometimes it always seems like it's something doesn't it.

Hope everything goes well.

Lisa and Frankie

Poor Morgan, and poor YOU!

Well he kept breakfast down (and the morning meds) and so far so good with dinner - but he only ate about 45 minutes ago. Good thing he has a sunny disposition :)
