We have 4 semi-feral cats that basically live on/around our property that we feed twice a day. We set up shelter and beds for them on our covered back porch for the winter. They know and trust us, and honestly, we haven't seen a mouse around here in a few years now (with the exception of the occasional head on the back porch ). We also have a 5th cat that sometimes shows up, but mostly (we think) lives at the farm at the bottom of the hill from us. He was here for dinner tonight, and when Dale went out to see how many we were feeding, he called me to check Leo. He picked him up and said - check behind his ear. Sure enough, there was the tick attached and fully engorged. I was able to pull it off in its entirety, but boy! Did it gush when Dale went to crush it - yuck, yuck, yuck! We checked the other cats (the ones that will let us pick them up, at least) and didn't find any more, but we did pull a few off our main semi-feral Buddy last year. So tonight I brushed Sammie really carefully and she's clean - at least for now. Have to get the Frontline on her, pronto! We pulled a few off her last year that were dead, so we know the Frontline did its job. For those coming to the meet-and-greet at the sheep farm in Bangor, PA next month - please be warned that this area definitely has deer ticks, so please make sure your dogs are protected! Yuck, yuck, double yuck! |

Tick season sucks, frontline plus does work but has to be on them more then just for plain Ol fleas, here during tick season every two weeks rather then once a month for fleas. In Oz we have the nasty paralysis tick and if those suckers attach life threatening for the dog if not treated regularly during tick season, especially with the paralysis tick buggar. We dont have them in Melbourne but if I travel the dogs are treated before we set off on our journey just to be on the safe side.. |
My dogs went to the vet this week for Heartworm tests. He told me to put the Frontline on monthly this year. In years past we went every other month but he says the fleas & ticks are getting more resistant. Also told me he's going to talk to his college friend at Ohio State about ProMeris. I must say I have been lucky in the past in this part of Ohio. No fleas or ticks for us using Frontline. But he did say if I was traveling south to get it on earlier than May. |
The sign board on the vet's office has been saying they are out.........so we started Frontline first of this month. Haven't seen the &^%$#!s and hope I don't since two of the kids are bed sleepers! |
oh no! I have not seen them here yet. Last year was sooooooooooooooooo bad! Frontline plus did not work for us. I used Advantix plus a tick collar. It was a tough battle. Hope this year is not the same. We treated the property twice and inside the house twice for ticks. I also use a spray the local feed store recommended for the house. |
