$300 adoption fee. |

I just read that he's in a no-kill shelter, after having already been taken from Animal Control. I wish we'd known about him sooner. Poor guy sounds like he's been through some tough times. |
His story broke my heart, but he's in a good place now. Atlanta Pet Rescue seems to do a good job of getting the dogs the care they need and then screening and finding the right new homes. He won't be there for long with that face! |
http://www.atlantapetrescue.org/www_ver ... /large.htm If you are searching for a sheepie, please take a minute & read Mason's story. Mason has had such a rough time & needs some TLC>>>poor baby. Really makes me so mad that people let these babies get in such a mess. Mason is so lucky to have landed in Atlanta Pet Rescue! A good place to get medical attention ( WoW was he in bad shape bad there) & a loving foster to help him heal & recoup. It sounds like Mason is getting his strength & goofball spirit back>>>oops even some counter surfing! Atlanta Pet Rescue is a wonderful all breed rescue but what Mason needs is a loving home to help him learn to be a wonderful companion & be treated like a king. Judy Price is the director>>she is a great gal>>>404-815-6680 judy@atlantapetrescue.org If you need more information about Mason, maybe Judy could put you in touch with Mason's foster. Let's help these babies get the loving home they so deserve Diane -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mason is a two to three year old Old English Sheepdog who weighs 78 pounds. This gentle giant came to us from an intown animal control facility where he was impounded after he was abandoned by his former owner. Mason had an inflamed, oozing, swollen scrotum and ulcerations on the bottoms of his feet from living in filth and mud. He walked with a limp because his feet hurt. His fur was badly matted, so he had to be shaved down. Mason smelled of rotting skin, and was helpless to do anything to relieve himself of his misery. He must have endured indescribable pain from his raw skin and weeping sores. Mason was taken to Collier Animal Hospital where he was prescribed pain killers and antibiotics to make him comfortable and fight the infections in his skin. Mason now has been shaved down, and he received a soothing medicated bath immediately after he arrived at our adoption center. Through it all, Mason has been nothing but patient and friendly. Foster Update 2/26/10: Mason is becoming more active and puppy-like now that he is feeling better. He will need basic obedience training to teach him good manners. Update 3/15/10: Mason was neutered today, and as a bonus had his entire scrotal sac removed due to his previous infections in that region. It will take a bit longer for him to recover from this ordeal, but he's resting comfortably at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic, under the watchful eye of Dr. Whittle and the very capable staff there. Obviously, this is a very tender subject for poor Mason, and he does not want to talk about his experience. He's wearing a big plastic cone on his head to prevent him from even looking at his surgery site. It's better that way. Give him a week, and all this will be little more than a bad memory. Mason is not currently available for adoption while he recovers from his neuter surgery. Foster Report 3/25/10: Mason is a great dog and, wow, whomever is fortunate enough to adopt him, is going to have a wonderful but challenging companion. With his fun-loving up-for-anything attitude, goofy smile and antics, and especially his soulful big brown eyes, Mason is quite the catch. I don't think anyone has ever explained to him how big he is because Mason thinks he is the perfect lap dog. He wants to follow his person everywhere -- his gaze says "why would you want to go anywhere without me?" He also wants to give big hugs. So Mason's focus is always going to be on his person. He has done well with my dogs and even has tried to play with my smallest dog but got a "hey dude, you are way to big" response. Mason is incredibly, almost overwhelmingly, exuberant when his person gets home. He, however, settles down after about 15 minutes and is pretty laid back until he thinks you are going to do something that does not include him when he hops up to follow. Mason does know some basic commands, like sit and down, but his obedient response currently is inconsistent. Because of his size, strength, and enthusiasm, Mason needs an experienced big dog owner who will take him through basic obedience and more. Additionally, this guy will need a job. If left to his own devices, he will explore countertops to entertain himself. |
