Need a new refrigerator. Any recommendations?

In the next couple of months, we will be purchasing a new refrigerator. I know basically what we want but am not sure what brand I want to get. I know I will be getting a stainless steel, french door refrigerator. Beyond that? Not sure at all. We're relatively indifferent to whether or not it has an in door water/ice dispenser. I don't want it if it takes up too much space in the refrigerator or if it will cause problems or if it is too expensive. I've read online reviews until I'm absolutely blue in the face and they all are so contradictory (and very model specific.) Reliability and energy efficiency are important to us. Cost, too--so no, I will not be getting a sub zero.

Ok, and we will also be looking to replace our wall ovens. Any recommendations? We have a separate cooktop and double wall ovens, of unknown age (but surely about 40 years old, minimum). So old that our repair guy, who is a saint, tells us that it is getting nearly impossible to find replacement parts if something goes, so I guess it's time to bite the bullet. I know that convection is all the rage and I admit to being curious but am old/stodgy enough that I need to have conventional options as well. Again, looking for reliability.

I've been reading online reviews like mad, including consumer reports and I am more confused than before I started. I'd be so grateful for any suggestions/recommendations.

decor and ge profile for ovens

kitchen aide and ge profile for fridges :)
I agree with Darcy about the GE Profile. I have all GE Profile appliances in my kitchen and have been more than happy with them. I have a duel fuel convection range and would no longer go back to a conventional one. I absolutely love the convection oven. Nothing ever turns out dry when you roast!

I had a bad experience with my Profile dishwasher, but GE more than made up for it with their customer service. It simply died one day and after numerous service calls (it was still under warranty) they decided it could not be repaired and made arrangements to ship a new one with no charge to me. I was very pleased and they have made me a customer for life with the way they dealt with the problem.

Unlike the other posters, I have never had any luck with anything GE-- Profile or otherwise. We only buy Kenmore or Electroloux now, after years of service calls and frustration with other brands. My sister- like the others above, swears by GE Profile.
I have a Whirlpool Gold fridge sold/bought at Sears. It was expensively priced but with the right coupons on the right special days it wasn't. :D

We wanted matched appliances, and went with Whirlpool for the over-the-range Microwave and with the Range as well. All seem to be working within normal parameters after a few years.

We went with a Bosch dishwasher (actually branded as Kenmore Elite). It is wonderful. Nearly totally silent, when the sprayer arm swings by the door you can hear a light sound resembling a heavy rain on a rooftop, about once per second. You can only hear it if you are in the same room. To reduce energy consumption it does not have a conventional drying cycle; you must use a rinse agent such as "Jet Dry". This is not nearly as annoying or time/money consuming as I had feared.

The water is heated to 161 degrees farenheight and maintains that temperature long enough to meet some government standard of "sanitized". The plates do come out of the washer hot and 99% dry, 100% if you wait a minute or two for the steam inside to disperse.
Let's confuse you some more
We just do our kitchen over...Went with the GE profile french door stainless refrig - counter depth. Like the refrig but wished I stayed witn the regular side by side and not the french door type. If you can go with the regular dept, you may have more room but the counter depth stinks...what I don't like about the french doors....You need to open both doors to open the draweres inside. The freezer is way small...Although I can put a catering tray inside, how often do I need to do that?

We have the ice maker and water thing on the outside door. Don't seem to lose space because of it and love that feature...But still, prefer my old side by side. That was a Whrilpool Gold and we were extremely happy with it.

Ovens...we have a 6 burner commercial gas range by Thermodor. LOVE it but cost a small fortune....And in reality, I NEVER use the 6 burners all at once.

Too many choices....
Thanks everybody.

Here's the whole story: We live in an old victorian era house. The last kitchen re-model was probably early 60's---latest. Possibly earlier, parts of it anyways. They put in very good appliances but the layout is terrible and inefficient. Because our appliances are nearing the mandatory retirement age (i.e. our repair guy is having a hard time finding parts when they go on the fritz every few years), we are taking advantage of the low interest rates and the lull in the economy and renovating the entire kitchen, floor to ceiling, raising the ceiling and to the studs. EVERYTHING will be re-done (although we will probably hang on to the dishwasher out of consideration of the fact that our budget isn't limitless). This means plumbing and electrical and of course lighting.

Here's a few questions: I read some rule of thumb about how much you should put into a kitchen reno as a per cent of the total value of the home. Does this stand even if you need to do as huge a reno as we do? Even if you are replacing (out of necessity) all or almost all of your appliances?

Here's what I am replacing, appliance wise (and this breaks my heart): a thermador 4 burner electric cook top with a huge griddle in the center (whole thing is 48 inches wide). I love it to death, but it's terminal. Unfortunately, it's gotten me hooked on nice appliances and I'm thinking of replacing it with a 36" Wolf gas cook top with a smaller griddle (budget is keeping from going for a 48 inch). Also will be replacing double wall ovens with 30 inch double ovens. Am thinking of GE but have gotten a bid for Maytag. I think the hood will be concealed in cabinetry, for the most part, depending on what I choose. Cost will be a factor but I also care about noise. And light. Our refrigerator is not particularly nice and was chosen only because it was the only one which would fit in the ridiculously small allotted spot in our current kitchen. Dishwasher is still working but.....I'd replace it. Hubby doesn't want to. Budget will determine. I am planning on stianless steel appliances, and almost certainly a french door fridge because we'll be putting in an island and space wise, that works better. How important is it that appliances match in brand? I want all the same color, but brand? I am looking for reliability over anything else.

The look I am going for is classic, timeless, relaxed. I want cream colored shaker style cabinetry, with a dark blue island, black granite counter tops with butcher block on the island, hard wood floors (probably med. dark.) I am thinking white/off white/cream subway tile as backsplash. Kitchen opens into family room via 12 foot door. Because of the layout of the house, kitchen will be basically an L shape. We will out of necessity replace the kitchen window, which is actually a good thing. Kitchen sits on the north side of the house, with the family room north of the kitchen so it tends to be dark. Currently, family room is dark paneled and I'm trying to squeeze out money to replace paneling with dry wall. Barring that, I will paint over the stuff.

Currently we are looking at dumping a LOT of money into the kitchen. Is it foolish? We plan to stay in the house at least 10 more years and probably more than that
