Condiments!

Anybody tried any new condiments?
Or have a tried and true one that you just love??

I get in a rut and end up with the same old things in the fridge. How about making a list, and tell how you use it!

A favorite for me is wasabi - used on lunchmeat sandwiches for work lunches. The little extra zing is wonderful :D

A new one I just tasted is cranberry horseradish sauce. Sounds odd, but I liked it! Tasted it on a cracker just to sample. This brand (a purchased one, there are recipes too) is not too hot (spicy). I will definitely get some and use it on the next beef roast we make in the crock pot!! :D
Here is a link - different brand, but real similar ingredients - http://www.kitchenkapers.com/16277.html

lisa turned me on to this stuff called jamon....(ha-moan)

it is a bacon flavored powder....you can add it to just about anything that you would use bacon for....it gives you the taste but not the calories.....i use it in soups and twice baked potatoes....yummo!
Weird! What an interesting product!
Darcy,
Where are you finding Jamon? Of course the name means ham in Spanish. Anyway, looked at Dean and Delucca as well as Penzey's and didn't see it. Do I need to go to a Mexican grocery here?

it is a goya product...i found it in walmart grocery stores and fry's.....you can also buy it on line...

for some reason its not on the goya site...but here is an ebay pic of it...

You know... I've never tried it, but have you heard of bacon-ayse? It's a mayonnaise that tastes like bacon.

I'm not a bacon, nor a mayonnaise fan, but it sounded uber weird!
Darcy - in the spice aisle?
Not a lot of PRs here, but we do have plenty of Goya products. I may have even used this years ago......... :lmt: Will be easier to find since Albertson's realigned the store putting "foreign" vs. New Mex foods separate. Thanks. I use BacO's in unique ways, this might be along the same line.
I wonder if it's the same thing I saw on tv ...and it wasn't something at a normal store. There was something on tv about bacon powders, spreads, etc ...but with none of the calories/fat/etc.

We're not exciting in the condiment department. Mr. J doesn't really use any, and I think everything should have honey mustard or a good creamy ranch. What more is needed?
Dawn,
Goya products here are in the "Mexican" section" where all manner or picked jalapenos, religious candles, annato oil, dry chiles, Mexican cocoa and sugars, etc are sold. Thinking up there you may need to either find a local Mexican market or send away. Also look in specialty food stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc in the soup aisle..or where dry bullion is sold. Maybe not Goya brand or something similar.

I'll be willing to bet Rancher's.........a real Mexican market has it here and maybe even our local WalMart........heck the in-store tv commercials are all in Spanish.

If and when I find it, I'll work a trade, Jamon for Chewie

No need to trade Chewie - I found it in the Spanish food section of our WalMart tonight

I bought all kinds of odd stuff tonight, as I am making beef jerky. I needed new soy sauce, liquid smoke, teriaki and worcestershire sauce! 8O I figured mine was at least 10 yrs old and should toss it all and get new...
...and my house is smelling pretty yummy
hmmmmmm, jerky....................gaargarggarragggaaaaaaaagrrraaa
Turkey jerkey? All is too salty for me. drat.
It was beef jerky - made from steaks from our own beef.

I didn't marinate it that long - so it's not uber salty. :D
I use worchestershire sauce in almost everything, meat, veggie stir fry, stews, meatloaf etc...
Another thing I use for a lot of dishes is called Sambal Oelek. It's an indonesian/dutch hot pepper paste. Tastes good in so many things...
^^
ditto on the w.sauce

I use an asian and indian red paste in a lot of my curry dishes. ..and since i'm always making asian dishes, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar are used often too.
Sofrito sauce, Yum. You can mix almost anything in this and it will taste great. Goya makes a great sauce but I haven't been able to find it in my area yet. Must have something to do with our lack of a Puerto Rican community. :cow: I guess it's time to make my own, darn.
I found the Jamon stuff this weekend, but it's mainly made out of MSG, which I'm allergic to, so I guess it's out for me.
