No shedding! They have lots of hair, so some falls out over time and breaks and is brushed out, but there's no shedding season.
As far as allergies go.... There happens to be an ongoing discussion of that right now. http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2877 |
But there is shedding while they grow out of their puppy coat and into their adult coat. People have had different exeperiences with this. Sometimes the process takes a couple of weeks, others it takes much longer.
At 15 months and in full coat we have been going though the "blowing" of the puppy coat for the last 6 months, and it does not look like it will end soon. The lint brush is a staple before you leave our house. As for allergies, you may not be allergic to the dog, but be prepared to be allergic to everything they bring into the house after a romp in the park (dirt, twigs, leaves, random remains of flowers, etc.) |
Robin,
I have submitted several posts on OES not shedding, the most thorough in the "Help Grooming Issue" thread currently found on page 3 of this forum. If you haven't read it, it will probably answer most of your "shedding" questions. The impression that OES shed is in large part due to a general "impression" that shedding and hair loss are the same thing. They are not, healthy OES don't loose hair hair in a regular periodic schedule due to environmental factors. They do loose hair, as do all mammals including the upright human variety, as a result of hair breakage and folicle renewal. If you ever live with, or have an extended visit with a shedding breed dog you will really come to understand this. Please don't hesitate to post or PM me if you have further questions after reading my post in the Help Grooming Issue thread. Thanks and Cheers Carl |
