Puppy pumpkin loaf

Last night I made Dudley a pumpkin loaf. I had some, too - it was pretty good stuff! It's high in vitamin A and is a good source of fiber. Here's the recipie:

Puppy Pumpkin Loaf
1½ cups all-purpose flour
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon baking powder
healthy pinch of ginger (I used freshly grated ginger)
½ cup canola oil
¼ cup honey
1 18-ounce can pumpkin
2 large eggs

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease and flour the loaf pan. Stir together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and ginger in a bowl and set aside. In a large bowl stir together the canola oil and honey. Add the pumpkin and eggs, one at a time, and stir to combine. Stir in ¼ cup of water. Add the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center of a loaf comes out clean. Cool to room temperature before slicing and serving.

 Of course, I should insert a disclaimer here that I put it in a glass 13" x 9" pan. I also doubled the recipie, used a 29 oz. can of pumpkin, and added more honey and cinnamon than it called for. It also took about an hour to bake, too. I think it might be less in an aluminuim pan.

Happy munching! :-P

It sounds so good, even though the smell of pumpkin makes me feel sick...lol... I don't know why.... they just gross me out. LOL
yum...I may have to make this for us and Jasper :)
We make one a little like this too. I do add plain yogurt, flax seed meal, and whatever else I can think of. I use whole wheat flour instead. Spread out on a cookie sheet and when its done i use a pizza cutter to make different size pieces. Some days the only way to keep them quiet and me sane is spend time in the kitchen. They just know when its for them.

How about a treat thread? everyone can add their favs.

Mmmmmm... pumpkin!
And this is same and yummy for doggies, huh? Well, Ithink I may have to get in the kitchen then!
Sounds so yummy!! Brings up a question..is it ok to feed "people food" to OES? There's so many debates about it. And when is it ok to start? Sasha is 9 weeks?
hi mumtosasha

Fellow Albertan here, I'm in Edmonton. Just wanted to send a big Hi to you.

ABOUT YOU HUMAN FOOD QUESTION, SOME DOGS HAVE A SENSITIVE STOMACH AND WILL ALWAYS GET DIARREEHA. soo sorry about the caps lock...anyways, a homeade treat like pumpikin loaf would be just fine, as a piece not the whole cake. For me it comes down to trial and error, I know Remy can't handle any pasta...her poo looks like its covered in snot...sorry only way I can describe it. But plain old rice, or meat she's okay with...in small amounts. For the most part 99% of the time she eats dry dog food, and an occasional treat I mix canned food in with it.

Some dogs once they get a taste for scraps will refuse dog food...who wouldn't...so it's best to keep it to treats.

So can I ask you got your dog from. I visited 1 kennel in Calgary area, and had extensive talks with another. PM me if you want, if you got her in the Edmonton area, we could have related dogs.
hi daisie!! Such a cute pic of your pup!! I tried to put a pic on but it kept telling me the file is too big...not good enough w/ computers to figure it out.   lol...
