Six years later, at age (almost 9) and he's mellowed somewhat..no longer attacking brooms, lawn mowers, eating CD's, going into a frenzy and vomiting at the sound of fireworks. Nope these days, he's still lively, enjoys his walks with his brothers, still gentle with bunnies and cats but continues to have issues with grooming and ear cleaning. His first mom has always kept in touch and sent a box full of presents for Christmas for him and his brothers, Merlin and Snoop. Lots of goodies and what else but a big stuffed Panda! After six years of full sedation yearly to get him shaved down and the "works" at the vet - I was surprised to see he had a star on his nose!!!!! (Pictures have been posted pending the okay) Don't think I had ever seen it before. Well a star is born...then again, I guess I always knew Panda Boy was a star. So here's to Panda on his 6 year "Gotcha" anniversary. May there be many more! Marianne |

Happy Gotcha Day Panda Poo! We love you!!!!! |
Happy Gotcha Day Panda Your story was happening when i joined and i remember logging on every day to see if Panda had got to his new home . I'm so glad he did |
Thanks to both of you for your kind words! You can see the lastest photo of Panda's spiffy new do and the star on his nose! Some of you may remember I have no choice when it comes to his groom job as I still have to have him fully sedated at the vets. Sigh...so although he's a sweet boy 99% of the time he becomes a raving lunatic if he's restrained in any way. Granted, that is the only thing that lingers from his past abuse at that horrible place. Overall, his story is a success story of how a dog learned to once again trust humans. It's as much a thanks to everyone at OES as we all had a part in his rescue. Marianne Ah life if good snoozing with my brothers after a long walk with mom. |
I love his star!!!! We always had to sedate Wilby to groom him too! He is sure lucky he made his way to you! |
Happy Birthday Panda! That star is so beautiful! What a surprise. sixpence wrote: Happy Gotcha Day Panda Your story was happening when i joined and i remember logging on every day to see if Panda had got to his new home . I'm so glad he did Panda's story also helped me to decide to go with a rescue for my first sheepdog Chumley. I thought if you had enough faith to adopt a unknown sheepdog from Hong Kong, they surely must be the most wonderful dogs ever. And that turned out to be true. |
People at the vet's were all commenting on his star, as was my sister. I kinda think it also resembles a turtle. Wonder what the significance that would be..perhaps hard on the outside but a real softy on the inside? Ahhh grooming...yes some of our "special ones" have their own quirks don't they? Makes us love them more for some reason. I found your post touching Valerie , thanks for that. I'm sure because of your rescue of Chumley and her story, others too followed suit. Like a chain reaction and it's why I love this forum so much. It's been responsible for so many dogs being given a second chance. |
I love his star too. One of my rescues hated going to the groomers. He only went once and he came back only half cut as he was going for the groomer (we don't sedate) it was up to me to quickly buy some cutters and finnish him off. That was a steep learning curve |
a very happy gotcha day to panda and marianne. thanks for adopting him. i agree the star looks like a turtle. i also hope you sleep through the pups stomach noises. |
How cute love the star on his muzzle or is it a "Star Fish" ? Happy gotcha day Panda baby. (love that saying too) Special man always |
Lol - Thanks Guest! Guess you read my other post..ah life is full of adventures! Lisa, your post made my heart do a flip flop....the reason being the significance of "Starfish". I had to question my sanity as I wondered how I could have had Panda shaved for the last six years and not once noticed the "star/turtle/starfish" on his nose. Maybe they didn't shave him as much other times? Nope, that's not it as although it has varied in length and they even once gave him hairy eyebrows..it still would have been visible. It couldn't have just appeared ? Could it? As soon as you said Starfish...well...my heart jumped. My fondest memory of Old Blue and Panda and the significance of "starfish" It was the first year of Panda's rescue and I took him and Old Blue to the tiny Island off the coast of BC which was semi-deserted with only 30 residents. I was on the beach with the both of them...Blue was 17 at the time, Panda had just started his new life with me. I released his leash and he looked at me....looked at the water....and what could only be described as a look of pure joy and almost as if he knew he was finally FREE...he dove in the water. Old Blue joined him and the two splashed in the ocean for a long time until both were exhausted and crashed on the beach amongst giant starfish the size of computer monitors. I took lots of pics that day but that computers files are gone now. That day is full of memories of Old Blue and Panda amongst the giant starfish. ......so it's a STARFISH!!! At least it's what I'll always think of it as one. Thanks Lisa! |
That story of Panda's freedom and the starfish gave me a great big smile with happy tears |
WOW amazing, it to me just looked more like a perfect little starfish hugging the muzzle more so then just a star shape. Like when you look in rock pools down at the beach and you see them clinging to the rocks. So starfish it has to be especially after that with Blue and Panda and the past |
Thank you cynmcreid! Oh sheesh I am getting old and memory fails me. After these post I realized that although the photos are not on my photo icon thingie, they did exist somewhere on this site. I did a search and after posting words like starfish,Blue, Panda...ect I found the site and the photos of that day!!!! Blue was 16 not 17 as I had thought ..but re-reading the post brought me down memory lane. I did see lots of post of course regarding the "starfish" story. Maxx wrote of it in 2005, of how you can't save them all...but to the ones you do....it does make a difference. Somehow after reading those post, the Starfish on his nose, somehow seems more significant. I'm dabbing my eyes now, especially since I see my favorite pic of old Blue who is now at the bridge and Panda's special day. The pics taken in 2004 of that day are here: At the time I didn't know how to post pics and so I waited and someone (sorry forget who) posted them for me a few months later. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2159&hilit=The+boys+on+vacation |
wow i never knew the story love the star |
oh, marianne, i just noticed in the picture, your pups let you have your own chair?? or is it just because it's empty? |
You mean this chair? Ha Ha! The photo was taken aprox 5 mins after the other photos. Sigh no chairs for me and I have to jockey a position amongst the dogs for a place to sit. As Alpha, I can shuffle them over but I also like when they've all settled and are quiet. Hmph, but I solved the problem by sitting on a hard kitchen chair. Mama didn't raise any stupid children you know! Sigh they move around and it's like playing musical chairs. Ironically, I purchased that chair so I'd have a place to sit by myself as sometimes my skinny body gets squished with a dog on top of me. A spiffy Odyssey 2000 model which has hydrolics/massage thingie in it. The original price was 2000...ohh not affortable for me. Then I see the sale price....200. Oh I'm gonna buy it and have my own chair!!! This is what happened: The day I brought it home....Panda sees it...claimed it as his own...he loved the heated massage thing. \i remember posting at the time he deserved to be pampered after what he'd been through. Looks like he died and went to heaven in this photo taken in 2003 or 04 doesn't he? |
i figured you didn't get your own chair!!!! awww mom, you're a softy to the max. lol well, that was a bargain price, and i'd have to say panda truly luvs it. my nico let me have my own lazyboy, but when he wanted attention or to go out, he sure didn't care if i was snoozin. |
Love the star! Glad you have one another and have shared so much over the years. |
Panda may have gotten the Bark-A-Lounger but I got the throne with my name on it! |
it's good to be the king!!! and not share that!!! |
Panda boy happy gotcha day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love, Panda girl |
Awww, here's to another happy year of being 'gotten' by Marianne And I love the star too. It makes Barney plain old wiggle button look boring. |
Thanks again for all your comments everyone! OHHHHH Ron, I'm wiping tears from my eyes! LOL! For those that don't remember that photo of Merlin, Blue and Panda ( head is visible) with the "RON" box....let me explain. It was during my home reno madness and I purchased a new spiffy toilet from RONA Home Hardware store. Stupid thing weighed a ton and it was several months in my hallway until I found a victim to carry it up a flight of stairs for me. Then the thing sat in my dining room for several more weeks until installation. (had to wait for the free course before I could do it). Ron was thrilled as I couldn't help but think of him often ....The RON now has a place of honor ...in the throne room. hee hee. Awww that photo, that's also one of my fav's...Merlin with his paw around best buddy Blue. Look at the smiles on their faces!!! Snoop hasn't yet replaced Ole Blue in Merlin's heart and what the heck was I thinking....getting another boy dog! Now if I had 10 Panda's........it would be so worth it! |
