Dog Park Poo Nazi

I just have to vent. I go to the dog park quite frequently. There is a very nice one in Bettendorf that is sectioned into two gated areas that are an acre a piece. The dog park is sectioned this way, because if the one park gets too muddy, they close down that side and open the other.

I have NEVER had a problem there, in fact, most of the people there are regulars and we all know each others dogs. The owners are mellow but will quickly get involved if the dogs are getting too rowdy.

Well, on Friday I went and was accosted by this lady. I had never seen her before, maybe we just go at different times, but she said with disgust in her voice "You need to pick up after your dog" and pointed to a pile. I guess while I was cleaning up after Asterisk, Wendel must have went. No problem! I thanked her and went to pick up after Wendel.

She just stares at me while I clean up after my dog. And I mean STARES, like I couldn't possibly clean up to her satisfaction. She had an older lab/great dane mix and finally walked away. She had one of those chuck-its and when she through the ball, of course other dogs, mine included, chase after the ball. She shakes her head like she's irritated that the dogs want to play.

She soon goes to this young lady who had a puggle and demanded that she pick up after her dog. The young lady went to where the lady indicated and didn't find anything that would match-up to her 20lb dog. She asked me if I saw her dog go and I mentioned that I hadn't I had been watching my dogs. The young lady went back to her friends. The Poo Nazi then walked up to the young lady and brought her down to where the pile was and watched her pick it up. All the time, berating her on how people needed to clean up after their dogs.

I just couldn't believe it! I'm all for cleaning up after your animals, but you don't have to be that way about it.

When I got home I relayed the story to Josh. Josh, himself, is too high-strung to go to the park. He is just a worrier and worries if the dogs bark at another dog or chase another dog. Even he was upset with the Poo Nazi.

Has anyone EVER encountered someone like that?! I could see it if it were a person who was not a dog person, but she clearly owned dogs.

Ugh, I hope I NEVER see her again!

I find the dog park is a microcosm of society. If you have nuts in society, you have nuts at the dog park. I have come across one at my dog park. She was smart enough to leave me alone...
I'm a poop nazi at our dog park; Tonks used to be quite the poop-roller, so anyone that didn't pick up was often part of my problem later in the day.

But I like to think I was polite about it. If I saw someone either not notice their dog go, or actually notice and not act on it, I'd innocently say "I think your dog just went to the bathroom, would you like a bag?" and offer them one of mine. Everyone misses when their dog goes once in a while. But the people that go to the park with NO bags, which tells me they have NO intention of cleaning up after their dogs, are in my opinion really inconsiderate.

One word: RUDE. There is no reason for anyone to behave like that no matter the situation. Patch and I frequent the dog parks a lot - we were at one this morning and I know when she has to go, so always watch and pick it up. If by some chance I miss it, someone either tells me or I have picked up enough of others that it works out. That woman is ill-mannered and needs to chill and enjoy her time at the park with her pup.
I'm sorry that you had to experience that. I'm not a poo nazi but I will point out to someone if there dog poo'd and they weren't watching just as I appreciate when someone points it out to me.

There is no need to be mean...unless someone intentionally does not pick up there dogs poo, and even then just going up to them, handing them a bag and pointing out that there dog poo'd usually clears up that problem.
Yes SIGH, I have experienced a poo Nazi too.
She was equally mean and rude.

I'm pretty fussy about poo getting picked up too. Hi Alison from a fellow member of P.R.A.Y. Also the dog dedicated park here doesnt have proper sown grass and is all prickles and burrs in summer so I walk Tiggy on a sports oval a lot and its not fair on the sports people if there is dog poop left behind.

But there is no need to be like that about it. Just a polite mention that you may have missed your dog pooping and the offer of a bag is enough. Once on the oval when a guy refused to pick up even when I asked would he like to be playing football and land in it, as mean as I get, I picked it up. That seemed to embarrass him into leaving. But I'm paranoid that we dog people will get banned from the oval and its the only prickle free place around.

Totally the same way. I think I'm more this way towards people in my neighborhood.

ooohhhh, I thought Chloe had a unique and disgusting habit!! She does the same, just yesterday, deer poo!!!!! UCK!
I do agree, I always pick up after my dogs. Though this time it seems that they were doing synchronized pooping (wouldn't that be an entry for the sheepdog olympics!) And I don't mind being told that my dog pooped, I'm more than happy to clean up! I just think that she seemed to be such a sour, angry person.

I'd say that up to that point, everyone that has gone there goes there to enjoy themselves. She just seemed like a person without control in her life, so she had to find something she COULD control.

Either way, I hope I don't see her again... grumble
I have had my dog park experience ruined by another too. Not only by the Poo Police, cause I think every park has one or more, but also by a person in the dog park who didn't even have a pony in the race, so to speak. These two guys were in the dog park sitting on top of a picnic table drinking their beverages out of brown paper bags... hummm.

I'm there with my elderly mom, so I have stationed us on level ground that happened to be near the gate. Tagg is running around as is Daisy, but Kiera is the dog police... she has to bark at every dog who enters, once they bark back at her, she just backs off. These guys are watching all this and have decided that it is because we are sitting somewhat near the gate and we are encouraging her. The thing is, that all people who have dogs, know that dogs have personalities... some are the boss and others are not... Kiera is a BOSS in every sense of the word. So they begin yelling at me telling me that my dog is "nailing" every dog who enters. Like she is biting every dog, when she is only barking at every dog and it's not like I'm not trying to correct her, but I still have two other dogs to pay attention to and make sure that I pick up the poo and that they are also good citizens... So now these two guys are trying to get other dog park attendees to agree that we need to be tossed out of the dog park because of Kiera... Again I must remind you, these guys don't even have a dog in the show.... They start to polarize the dog park attendees against me. It was so amazing, I could hardly believe it was actually happening. I'm one trying to have a sunny outing with my mom, take the dogs for some exercise and I'm being harrased by these jerks...

Oh and don't get me started about the Poo Police... think about it, 3 dogs and one person... it is bound to happen. When I enter with the three dogs, I say loudly, if one of my dogs takes a poo and I don't see them, please let me know so I can make sure it's cleaned up.... For the most part they do let me know... but there have been times.

Thanks for letting me rant... I rarely go to the dog park anymore, I'm not sure it's worth having the jerks start up with me. When I was a kid I was not the most poplular, when this began, it was like I was whooshed back to grade school, when I would get picked on day in and day out... It was not comfortable...
My favorite "Poo Nazi" story isn't from a dog park.

We take our dogs with us when we do a booth at the state Fair every year, and they, along with all the other dogs camping out behind the booths with their owners, go potty in a huge field where the RVs are parked.

We are always super careful about cleanup, but one year there was a jerk who wasn't. We, as the owners of the most memorable dogs on site, got blamed

In the end, the real culprit got caught, but before that, the person who was most upset by the poo went around and drove stakes into the ground everywhere there was a turd with paper signs attached, that said: "LOOK OUT!"

I can say that every time I go to the park, there are always your 'greeters', sometimes my dogs are among them. There are dogs that like to greet the new group of dogs coming in or saying goodbye to those leaving.

Those guys really were jerks!! I have to say, I am fortunate that most of the people at the park are really cool people, it just seems that I picked the wrong day/time with this chick.
There's always someone who hasnt a clue about dogs but thinks they know it all.

A few years ago Rastus went up to a King Charles Cav and play bowed to it, it looked at him as if to say "what the hell, a dog!" so he gently pawed at its shoulder. Note Rast is a dalmo not a big paw bashing sheepie :D and his tail was wagging the whole time.
The Cav rolled on its back totally submissive, so Rast just walked off looking disappointed.

The next thing I knew a woman was chasing us down the path yelling at me about my aggressive dog. 8O

I was walking with lab owner who I knew from the park and we both were shocked. We looked at this lady as if she was crazy and just kept walking. It wasnt worth going there.
Even though we have it under control for the time being, I think Tonks may win all time prize for the biggest, worst poop roller:

I know that had to be a gross moment, but that is pretty funny.

Too funny - but I can almost smell it. That is a pretty bad roll.
I think that "Rude Poop Nazis" are turds! (I hope that I can say that on the forum)
I don't know why angry people bother to go to dog parks. They spoil it for all of us that are perfect sheepie owners! :P
