No "in the meantime advice" here, but I've been through kidney issues with a senior dog, and am glad to hear you'll be heading to the vet first thing Monday. If you see any lethargy, dizziness, or bright red linings of the eye lids (I did) don't wait until Monday at all. And when you do go, insist on a urine check AND blood work. I had two vets examine and check urine within a few days and be told all was well. I cried on one of the vet's voicemails and insisted on coming back. We did another check and took blood. I was told it was unlikely there was a problem, but got a call saying come right back before I even made it home. He was in acute kidney failure at the age of ten. I'm not trying to scare you. It's just that a dog can seem to be in much better shape than they really are, so if you suspect kidneys please insist on lots of tests. I'm glad I did. It gave us the opportunity to at least try to correct things. Good luck, and we'll keep good thoughts going your way from here! |
Definately a vet check on your elderly sweetie, increased water and a strong odour to the urine needs looking at medically. Is the colour of the urine darker then usual as well.? Hard when they get old, might also just be an infection like a mild UTI, as they get older they are more suseptable to infection also, when going to the vets take a urine sample with you makes it easier then, rather then getting to the vets and then them wanting a pee sample then, I find mine wont pee for a vet . Get a clean glass jar and take the dog outside, you can use a clean pan and when they go, catch it and transfer it to a sterile jar. Best wishes hoping nothing serious and do keep posted on how it is going and what the vet thinks. Hugs for you both |
